thanks for the updates Charles. no point of multiple people counting the entries! It looks like it'll be a huge event

edit: looks like there should be some pretty decent sized classes too. 11 in both STX and STR. 8 in HS, a bunch in CSP. it's a shame theres no other STR S2000's

At least you have entries in your class :P

edit: All I had to do is complain, someone just registered an E46 M3 in BSP.

Is anybody here still unsure of where they are staying? This trip just got a whole lot more expensive for me (and stressful) (partly related to work). I'm debating not going now, but if I did it would help to share costs with someone....

Last time I let him drive my car it broke twice, I'm not so sure about him.

One week away and I'm STRONGLY considering swapping this event for Loring. Half the distance, far lower entry fee, comparatively cheap accommodations, gives me another week to prep, can do the lapping day on the 1st. I know I won't get to dip into the tow fund, but it'll still work out cheaper. Oh, and no Quebec... Lol

Seems like I can't go wrong. Anyone else thinking the same? Dustin?

Funny enough, we were talking about how Loring made much more sense for the reasons you described. The ASCC tow fund (that hasn't been officially decided on as far as i know...) plus dirt cheap AirBNB accommodations make it much more reasonable, but there's no getting around driving 2500km in a car that's uncomfortable after 250.

Still, we're going to nationals. I'm mainly interested to see my relative performance compared to (A) competitive STR cars and (B) overall placement compared to guys that ran in 2014.

The tow fund is $2000, it will be divided up between anyone who goes to nationals and has gone to 4 ASCC events this year. We had a rough guess of 14-15 people.

We're down to 11 so far if Devon & Dustin are out... FYI The ASCC chequebook will be at Nationals.

Supp regs/Course maps just showed up in my email.

One thing to note (for those that haven't left yet):

Quote:
9.7 USE OF HYDRAULIC JACKS
A wood plank must be placed under any car jacking equipment like jacks and jack stands to eliminate any risk of damage to the asphalt surface.

For a reference, according to google maps the narrowest section of the course (bottom half) is about 200ft wide, or 2.5 Digby widths. Should be a really good course.

The thought of having to run a Toyo sticker on my car is making me cringe lol. Maybe if they put some effort into developing a competitive product it wouldn't feel so dirty. Maybe I will get some Bridgestone stickers to run right beside them.

I'm definitely not putting one on my car again this year. My (questionable) paint is apparently not compatible with their stickers. I had the letters "OYO" in my rocker panel, where it pulled up my clear coat, for two years until I had it repainted

It only says "directly over numbers" anyway so I will just put them on my window. It's not uncommon as part of national level events to have to run stickers - look at the supp regs for the US nationals and you have to run a tirerack windshield banner, 2 tirerack fender/door stickers and one SCCA sticker on the front bumper. It's part of the sponsor agreement, but the supp regs should have been available much longer than a week before the event so people knew about it.

They also put in a line about 4" minimum class letters when ASN does not require that/say anything about it. Should be interesting going through tech.

Scott, did they say how long the course would be ? Would need a rather large lens to get all the action of the cars in proper detail. I sure envy you guys going to the event.
Ming's got the solution to temporary stickers for these events...easy to do and no harm done.

Hi guys-its been a while since I last posted here.
Ok I read some of the latest comments. Yeah Toyo is a sponsor and brings $$$ to the table- which allows us to spring for things like- FREE BBQ saturday night and free beers( did I say that out loud?)
Pays for a lot of nice things so stick the sticker on a window- roll up window for tech- roll down window for competition- stop complaining.

OK reasons why you should be there-
Will be a historic record breaking Canadian attendance record- close to 160 competitors! wow!
you can measure your talent against some of the best in Canada and east coast USA.
free food and beer... damn i said that again
best tarmac surface in Canada and among top 2 in North America
amazing nationals style course- you have never seen this, if you haven't done SCCA yet. They are pretty awesome
fun fun fun.
cool cars!
hey it's the nationals! and Carl is twisting my arm
and finally- yeah i said I was going- better not back out.

Looking forward to meeting a lot of you and putting faces on the names.

see ya friday!

Sorry you sound an awful lot like Kevin and our forum rules dictate that everybody uses their proper names to cut down on the trolls. If you are not Kevin, trust me you will get along great together when you meet at CAC

Please no more discussion on this so as not to derail this thread!

Stacy

BBQman is Carl Wener. Drove the ITR in every CAC up until this year- have a GT3 now- sort of like what I remember you drove.
Met you at original CAC at Sanair and have seen you at almost all CAcs on the east coast that you attended.

Great event, great time! Many Thanks to the organizers, Frank and CADL, and Carl et all for the course design! Everything about the weekend was great! Except the numbers mix up, but I'm pretty confident that in the future that won't happen again. Hats off to all involved in making this happen, 146 entries! WOW!

Are the full results posted anywhere yet?

They are on the cac facebook page as photos from the side of the trailer, that's all I've seen so far.

That was a hell of an event. They did an extremely good job at organizing everything and keeping it running smoothly. Almost 150 cars pushed through by 4-5pm each day.

At first I was disappointed with the way they did the runs (2 morning, 2 afternoon) but by sunday afternoon I realized it was a great choice. Never had to work for more than 30-40 minutes at a time and had the chance to get water & shade between working and running.

As for the course itself, it was fantastic. Bar none the best slalom course I've ever driven. I liked just about everything they did with it:

-Flow was just about perfect. No straights into pin turns or hard 90s, no random tight elements to extend the length, and no first gear after the start(unless maybe you had an S2000). There was a tight spot day 2 that had to get added for safety reasons, but even that drove fine. But top speed was also kept in check, we banged the limiter twice per day but didn't touch 3rd gear anywhere. I'm always hitting 3rd at AMP and Digby, and sometimes Slemon.

-Getting a clean run was easy. There was lots of room for error just about everywhere. Getting a clean, fast run was much trickier. You really had to look ahead and know what elements were coming up, and which cones to be tight on. Ben showed me both days that I was losing tenths by just not being tight enough.

-The course length was just right. Long enough to have a good mix of elements, but not so long that I couldn't run through the course in your head while sitting in grid. I've seen the comment "People are going to be disappointed if they drive a few hours for a 40 second course". I've always disliked that line of thinking, and now I completely disagree with it. I just drove 12 hours for a 60 second course and it trumped every single 60+ second course I've ever done around here.

Hey Scott it was nice to meet you and Ben during the parc ferme.
Thank you for your thoughts and comments about the course.
Jean spent 40 hours designing it on paper and then we spent 3 hours Friday am and 1.5 hours each day switching it over.
hardest job I have ever had at Nationals...except when organizing.

Decisions for # of runs per heat were tough but given the course conditions that changed as it rubbered in- Frank made the right call.

so happy that you all enjoyed yourself.

we will work on getting times posted better next time around- it seems to be the real only sore point I saw.
I finally have my voice back!

see y'all in 2 years OR in 2 weeks if Chump pushes ahead with AMP event.

I agree 100%, very well run when it counted. I enjoyed myself even though the Mustang broke during Trevor's first run. Thanks to the English's for letting Trevor run their car and thanks to those that offered me a ride even though I declined and chose to spectate for the remainder of the event.
