When is the Candian Championship at Slemon next year. I want to make sure I leave a big a gap between that and Loring as possible.

It will be August 1-3, 2014. You might want to consider having Loring the following weekend, August 9-10, 2014. That might lure some of the competitors traveling from New England & central Canada. They could vacation the week on PEI and catch Loring on the way home.

Humm, I wonder which is better the weekend after as you suggest , or 2 weeks later. I did hear some comments that Loring came so soon after Slemon this year (and that was 2 weeks).

I dont want to go to the last weekend as that is close to the end of summer, and I cant go earlier as it runs in to the Land Speed folks.

If anyone else can offer an oppinion I am all ears.

Had a great time. The event gets better every year. I really liked that there was some sort of grid. I really helps me know when I should be getting ready and in my car. I really liked both courses. Despite all the red flags/OC's on day 2, I didn't think it was a hard course to read. I do make a point to show up early and walk the course often especially for a course that big. I don't remember seeing too many people doing that Sunday morning.

I would like to see some CMC members make it to Slemon especially for the Canadian Autoslalom Championships, however the weekend after Slemon (August 1-3, 2014) might be a good weekend for Loring. Should be a lot of competitors from Ontario and Quebec and might be able to sell them on making a single vacation out of it. Same for the competitors from New England, just a bit more of a detour for them.

Ming/Shawn - given that you're allowed to run 2 cars, did you consider running each other's cars in addition to your own?

That thought never crossed our minds :orglaugh:

It was a couple of long, hot days, but I enjoyed it, the course was very fast and flowing, in both directions

Hope to see more from the region attend next year too

Thanks for posting the videos so quickly. The fastest cars were about 10 seconds faster (with 30 KPH higher peak speed) than Ming/Shawns runs in the videos, and the fastest kart was 20 seconds faster. For reference, in my shifter kart I hit 76 MPH, and in my Sonett I peaked at about 72 MPH (this based on rpmxgear).

Thanks for having us Chris! ...I wish I could have stayed longer :(

I thought I entered an abandoned Area 51 or some Stephen King end of the world "virus killed everybody" place when I first arrived Friday night. It's like driving through a Ken Block Gymkhana movie set to get onto those huge runways, and wow are they long! BTW did I hear you say the course was 1.4miles long? (and I think I heard that one of my morning runs was 1:10) ...So to give the boys and girls at here an idea of the speeds at your event, I lap AMP in 1:19 and it is 1.6miles long 8O

Oh, and where can one go to view the results and see any pictures?

Thanks
Stacy

Running one car is more than enough for me. Dwight ran a car and a kart the first year and he was constantly running between them. He looked way too busy in my opinion. I do too much running around at MMSC events. I like to travel to other club's events because I can take my time to prep, socialize, and just enjoy the event.

I'm pretty sure it was 110 seconds which is 1:50

On Saturday, Jake (the young guy) did the course in 92 seconds in his Shifter kart. The fastest cars were 103 seconds. I turned a 108 in the Sonett.

I expect to have the results cleaned up and posted by mid week. I will post a link them.

Great to see your 914 Stacy. It looked and sounded awesome. And yes, Loring is big. I have tried just about every word to describe it, and I still fail. The first time there people see it they are still amazed even when they know it is big.

Ming, thanks for the feedback. I thought the grid worked well too. We also got the worker changeover down to 14 minutes the last two heats on Sunday.

I think Scruffy (or guest designer) did a very good job on the courses. If you took the right line, the course flowed very fast, and if you got off line you were punished. I dont think we will use the "D" in the future. The pavement has too many challenges getting in and out of it. There is so much other pavement there, I will work to come up with a course that uses more of the the main runway in place of the "D' (Ming, in your video I think you got off line in the sequence on the bomb pad as your speed dropped down quite a bit on the 3rd corner or your GPS speed gets confused when you do that sort of sequnece)

Likely get some Newfoundlanders as well. It would make the long ferry ride even more worthwhile if they get to run two huge events in the same mainland trip!

Well the line of reasoning about having Loring 2014 the week following the Slemon event is making more and more sense. The only counter point is how will the Moncton crew feel about it. Will they need a week of down time to recover.

Going to Loring is downtime for me :)

I'd be more likely to hit Loring next year if there were a bigger gap between it and Slemon - but I expect that I'm in the minority

Looking at those videos, I can understand why some people had a tough time navigating. The use of pointers to indicate "wrap around this cone and proceed leftish (or rightish) to find the next gate" was quite limited

Eric keeps telling me to use less pointers and stop babying you guys :P

Seriously though, I don't think there was too many spots where I would have added pointers. If you didn't see the next set of pylons, then you're looking and probably heading the wrong way.

...and everybody made fun of my 1970's bike, until it took us a half hour+ to walk it  (and then it was too late to take the bike around after all...)

I didn't think I was going to like the different colour pylons, but it made a huge difference in depth perception. I usually can remember where a course goes from the walk though, but picking out where to go through a sea of pylons at speed is another thing. The green on the left, red on the right was a big help!

BTW I did notice is that a lot of competitors worked as a team to gain an advantage. They smartly took a teammate with them in the first three runs so that they could critique each others runs and figure out the best lines, then dumped the extra weight (body) in the afternoon runs to get their best times in. The other thing I noticed is that if you think you can shave a few seconds of the course ...it usually ended up being double what you thought because of the speeds involved.

Stacy

Stacy, there are no "teams" per se but we try to help each other drive better. A long standing opportunity in our club is ride alongs. People take great advantage of this. No restrictions as to when you ride or when you take riders. At Loring, we allow each driver to drive a max of 2 vehicles (at smaller events it can be 3, although this is seldom done). I drove my Sonett and my shifter kart. It was busy, but the grid made it not too hectic.

There are some SCCA regions that use 2 color cones, so we are not alone. I personally find it a help, and novices generally find it beneficial.

While CMC has a lot of cones, we did borrow 100 orange cones form the Sports Car Club of New Hampshire. A course at Loring takes very many cones.

I hope that many of the A/X drivers from New Brunswick will make the trip to Loring in 2014. Many of you are much closer to the venue than the bulk of CMC members (we are based in Cumberland County Maine which is in southern Maine)

I was watching some to the 2013 Slalom at Slemon videos and I see you draw lines from cone to cone. We sometime mark the centerline, but marking the edges like that seems to defeat elements like the bomb pad "looks on way" and drives totally differently type of element sequence.

The entire course isn't marked and is only used to help the driver visually navigate the course. Elements like slaloms or something like CMC has done with the bomb pad would not be marked. They are primarily used between gates or to define boxes (the course designer seems to like using a lot of gates). Another note on the chalk/flour lines, they are not part of the course and sometimes the fastest line is driving outside them. So just because it's marked one way, you don't have to drive it that way

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

I saw somewhere that you are going to ask Roger Johnson to design next years course. We are thinking of doing the same for Loring, although we were happy with Scruffys course designs this year. And he has already comitted to doing courses next year (and attending with his Porsche)
