PSA: DO NOT SEND A DEPOSIT IF I HAVE NOT SENT YOU AN EMAIL TELLING YOU YOU'RE IN THE SCHOOL.

It’s that time again! The ASCC High Performance Driving School for 2017 will be held during the long weekend on Sunday May 21st and Monday 22nd, 2017. This session is open to anyone who wants to learn some of the more advanced techniques and track safety to qualify for a Lapping card or Time Attack license for the 2017 season. A lapping license is required to attend any ARMS lapping events, and a Time Attack License is required for the 2017 ARMS Time Attack taking place on September 8-10.

1. ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The High Performance Driving School will take place starting with a evening classroom session on Sunday May 21st followed by an all day track session at Atlantic Motorsport Park on Monday May 22nd. This course consists of a classroom session instructing students on the theory and physics of high performance driving as well as track safety. The following day consists entirely of on-track activities with small groups of students paired to experienced instructors.

We have 30 spots total.

2. COST

The school will cost $275. If signed off by an instructor at the end of the school, this also includes a lapping or time attack license. In addition, if you are not a member of an ARMS club an additional $30 is required to purchase a membership. A lunch will be included on the 22nd.

3. WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

A safe street vehicle. If your vehicle can pass MVI it should be OK for the on-track sessions. Vehicles will be inspected for suitability (Brakes, Tires, etc) prior to the session. It is highly recommended that you flush/bleed brake fluid before the event and do not use pads at less than 50% thickness.

Convertible vehicles are NOT permitted without adequate rollover protection, factory rollover protection is not enough so please check with the organizers. Please contact the organizers with questions regarding vehicle suitability. Students will be asked to complete a self-inspection checklist provided prior to the course.

A Snell 2005M or newer 'M' rated helmet is acceptable, provided the car is not equipped with a roll cage or racing slicks. Cars with cages and/or slicks will require a Snell 2005 or newer 'SA' rated helmet. ‘DOT’ helmets are not approved. If you have an SFI or FIA rated helmet it may qualify, please ask.

If you do not have access to a helmet please contact the organizers as loaner helmets may be arranged with advance notice. ASCC has a very limited number of loaner helmets.

4. WHAT YOU NEED TO FILL OUT

Below are the forms you need to read, understand and fill out for this school. PLEASE TRY TO HAVE THESE FORMS FILLED OUT FOR THE CLASSROOM SESSION. If you have any questions just ask.

A. SoloSport Self Tech Form must be filled out and completed

B. License Application Form (Leave instructor only section blank)

C. Club Membership Application (If not an ARMS member for 2017)

For ASCC you can also get a membership online here: http://www.ascc.ca/?page_id=423

5. LAPPING/TIME ATTACK RULES

It is also recommended that you take a look at the rules/regulations for Lapping and Time Attack:

ASN Canada FIA Lapping Regulations

ASN Canada FIA Time Attack Regulations

Information regarding rollover bars Appendices C & D, starting at page 106
(please inform us if you plan to use a convertible for the school, most convertibles do not meet our safety requirements)

For the school a fire extinguisher is not required.

Any questions please email hpds@ascc.ca, post here or send myself a private message

Completion of this High Performance Driving School AND instructor signoff qualifies participants for an ARMS Lapping and/or Time Attack license allowing you access to the many lapping and solo competition sessions at Atlantic Motorsport Park throughout the year. The cost of this license is included in your school entry.

6. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT

To register for the school please email the following information to hpds@ascc.ca:

- Name
- Phone Number
- Email address for contact
- Make/Model/Year of vehicle and modifications
- Is your car a convertible (Yes / No)
- Previous motorsports/driving school experience with summary details (e.g. BMW school, previous HPDS, x years of AutoSlalom)

A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your entry. Deposits or full payments can also be made via PayPal to paypal@ascc.ca. Cheques payable to ASCC can be mailed to ASCC, Box 31120, Halifax NS, B3K 5Y1, ATT Debbie Miller. They can also be dropped off in person at any of the ASCC club meetings. Second tuesday of every month, 7:30pm @ The Riverside Pub in bedford.

DO NOT SEND A DEPOSIT IF I HAVE NOT SENT YOU AN EMAIL TELLING YOU YOU'RE IN THE SCHOOL.

DEPOSITS MUST BE RECEIVED BY MAY 7TH TO GUARANTEE YOUR SPOT. There is a waiting list every year - if we have not received a deposit by then, we will start looking at the first person in the waiting list.

Please keep in mind that Sunday evening during the classroom session is a busy time so the more prepared you arrive (membership already purchased and forms filled out ahead of time) the smoother and quicker the evening will go! Our goal is always to try and get you out of the classroom at a reasonable hour so that you may have a full nights rest before the following track day!

All Schools are first come - first served! Reserve your spot today!

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Track!

Looks like we will need a Mustangs only section in the pit! And maybe our own run group

I'm really excited for this! I've had my M3 for a little under a year, and can't wait to get on the track. I'm hoping to get the lapping and time attack licenses and take part in more events throughout the year.

It's good to be back Scott. The final stages of my naval career involved jobs on very busy ships and in Ottawa. Now I am retired and armed with my retirement gift (2017 Mustang GT with a few extras) and I am ready to run again!

rbrt - You are going to love having your car on track at AMP!

Art, I'm glad you're back too! Sweet car! You must be planning to attend the Time Attacks too so that you can set a new PB, because right now it's in a Neon remember

Best place for those Mustangs is on pitlane. That way all the folks walking through the paddock are safe

Indeed Steve, if all the Mustangs sit in pit lane, everyone else's times at the top of the time board is perfectly safe :P

With that said, I am not the guy to challenge anywhere near the top of any leader board. But I am hopeful I can beat the personal best I set in Leon the Neon! (Thanks for that day Brian, it was great!)

I should mention - if you need a loaner helmet, get a hold of me now. We only have so many and they will be first come first serve.

Yes Sharing a car is allowed.
1- Make sure the tires have lots of tread, (No excessive shoulder wear)
2- Brakes are over 50% and fluid was flushed in passed few months.
3- Bring a extra jug of fuel (20L), Stopped in Milford at the ESSO and fill up on your way as well.
4- Have a licenced tech do a full check over of the car prior to the event. (if owner can Properly do this then go for it). A basic MVI check and fluid flush.
5- Extra oil. Most cars when run hard at the track will consume a bit of oil. (turbo cars more so) Its normal and only something to worry about if you never check it. Some cars use none. yay.

The car will only get to sit for 5 minutes or so between runs. So it will heat soak and then head right back out. Lots of people have done it in the past. They all seemed to enjoy there time. Biggest problem was fuel. They ended up missing there run groups because they didnt bring any extra fuel. So if you know your car is thrusty, bring 2 jugs of fuel. The closest gas station is about a 30-40min round trip.

2/3 full now. Even if it does fill up and you're interested, send an email anyway. We always do a waitlist.

FULL!

If you're on the list of 30, you should have gotten an email from me saying I added you.

Still taking names for the waitlist, but please don't send a deposit for that.

Hi Scott, I just went to pay my down payment but noticed this in the instructions:

"DO NOT SEND A DEPOSIT IF I HAVE NOT SENT YOU AN EMAIL TELLING YOU YOU'RE IN THE SCHOOL."

All caps and stuff so you are serious! I can't find said e-mail. If it was sent please resend, if not please do and I will respond with my deposit

At this point I am closing the waitlist. It is not likely 15 people will drop out of the school before may.

A few have asked about a second school, we looked into it but it won't be possible this year. Brian Gay is working hard to get instructors, we may be able to slot in more than 30. Not promising anything yet, we will let people on the waitlist know as things get confirmed.

I'll be there as pit crew. I can't commit to helping out on track as i know the neon will cause some issues, but I can help out around the paddock area
