High Performance Driving School - May 22-23, 2016

The first ASCC High Performance Driving School of 2016 will be held during the long weekend on Sunday May 22nd and Monday 23rd, 2016. This session is open to anyone who wants to learn some of the more advanced techniques and track safety to qualify for a Lapping card or Time Attack license for the 2016 season. Remember that you REQUIRE one of these licenses to drive at ARMS AMP events (outside of schools or slalom events)!

The High Performance Driving School will take place starting with a evening classroom session at 6:30pm Sunday May 22nd at 100 Dispensing Way, Lower Sackville followed by an all day track session at Atlantic Motorsport Park on Monday May 23rd. Entry fee is $250.00 which includes the Lapping card and/or Time Attack license for students who successfully complete the school. This course consists of a classroom session instructing students on the theory and physics of high performance driving as well as track safety and the following day consists entirely of on-track activities with small groups of students paired to experienced instructors.

The HPDS Students are required to bring the following:

- A safe street vehicle. If your vehicle can pass MVI its probably fine for the on-track sessions. Vehicles will be inspected for suitability (Brakes, Tires, etc) prior to the session. Convertible vehicles are NOT permitted without adequate rollover protection, factory rollover protection is not enough so please check with the organizers. Please contact the organizers with questions regarding vehicle suitability. Students will be asked to complete a self-inspection checklist provided prior to the course.

- A Snell 2005M or newer 'M' rated helmet is acceptable, provided the car is not equipped with a roll cage or racing slicks. Cars with cages and/or slicks will require a Snell 'SA' rated helmet. Helmets meeting the following FIA standards are also approved.

FIA 8860-2004
Snell 2005 SA / 2010 SA
SFI Foundation 31.1A or 31.2A

If you do not have access to a helmet please contact the organizers as loaner helmets may be arranged with advance notice.

Below are the forums and rules you need to read, understand and fill out for this school:

Some of those links are no longer valid anyway, ASN changed their site. ARMS needs to update their links too. Here's the corrected links:

ASN Solosport Self Tech Form

ARMS Club Membership Form

License Application Form

Relevant information on Time Attack and Lapping:

ASN Canada FIA Time Attack Regulations

ASN Canada FIA Lapping Regulations

Information regarding rollover bars (please inform us if you plan to use a convertible for the school, most convertibles do not meet our safety requirements)
See Page 108, Appendix C & D of the autoslalom regulations

This post thread on the HPDS needs to be put somewhere on the forum where it is easy to find. And also a link posted on the ARMS and ASCC websites. I have a group in Truro interested in taking the school this year. I have sent them the link.

I can't seem to find details to determine differences between this and the ARMS race school the following weekend. Does doing one let you do everything the other does with some minor differences? I seem to remember them being the same school a few years ago, with the addition of completing a race you had a race license instead of a Sprint / Lapping license. Will this school be the only opportunity to get these licenses this season?

I'm 99% sure a full race license lets you participate in any lapping or TA events. They used to give a racer discount for TA.

You are correct Scott. The two schools used to be combined but were split up years ago as there were many more people wanting only a time attack license and not a racing license. I`m sure Brian Gay can fill you in on the differences between the two schools but I suspect with the race school you will get instruction on "racecraft" as well as high speed driving skills.

I'm sure confirmations will be sent out, but Joel is a busy man. I didn't get confirmation but later learned that he did get my registration.

Why don't you guys run a live entry list like the Slalom at Slemon and nationals? That way there is no confusion.

Hi all,

Wondering if there any spots available for the May 22-23rd school. I'm a newb to the community and am eager to get involved. Just registered with ASCC and looking forward to my new Mustang GT burning a hole in pavement instead of my pocket!

Cheers,

Chris

Alrightly, I have sent out a bunch of emails. If you have not received a email from me Please email me at joel_r_nelson@hotmail.com.
There are still 7-8 spots left, so do not panic. I see a few names on here that I have no email from. Most likely my email failure. Tried to do something better. Failed. lol.

I just sent out emails so it might be there now, what is your full name? Just so I know who you are. You can PM or email me if you do not want it on the forum. Thanks.

Welcome Chris. I know we were already emailing but you should check out the Autoslalom test and tune day April 30th. Great way to get sorted in your new car. The school that day is full, but the test and tune is open to everyone.

Thanks, Joel. If a spot opens up, I'd be happy to take it. I'll show up on the 30th anyway.

Cheers,

Chris

A few of us were wondering if we could pay the rest of the course via paypal or EMT.

we all paid deposits, but were not sure how the rest of the money was to be paid. In the text it said the full payment would be due a week before the event, so we didn't want to lose spots.

Cheers
