Post subject:  GT5 Online Racing - Spec M3 Series

Hey all,

We're thinking about starting up some GT5 online races.

-Once or twice a week
-3 to 5 races per night (10 to 15min races)
-restrictions on HP, tires and weight for the races
-Only driving assists will be TC and ABS.
-clean racing (for an example of rules and etiquette please see the link below)
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=111241

We're open to suggestions, IE damage/scoring/types of events, etc

We were wondering who's interested and what days/times are best for people.

Trevor, I know a few people who are better with a controller than most people are with a wheel.

I'm thinking of doing a test/fun run tonight between 7-9pm.
Anyone interested is welcome to join my Lounge between those hours.

Bluetooth headsets are highly recommended!

If the times are somewhat compatible to ppl across the pond I'll be in.

We could create a spec series as well. Maybe not Miatas, more like Vipers or M3s.

I'm in for a spec series... I agree maybe not Miatas but M3s or Skylines/GT-Rs/NSXs/etc maybe good

I am in as well. Any week night. 9-10 would be the bat time. And I am suggesting we all run M3's. All the same. Only modifications would be sport suspension and hard racing tires. No others allowed. And only tcs and abs. And no racing on top gear test track. Scott will have all the cones everywear.

Bahahaha!

Also one note guys, in online games DO NOT enable the race restriction for TCS. (IE Always allow TCS, never disallow it)
There is a bug in the game, and if you do restrict/prevent it, those with DFGT wheels will be unable to enable/disable TCS online or offline from their steering wheel anymore. Permanently.
Apparently it sets a flag inside the savegame data that is unable to be over written. So those with DFGTs (like myself) becareful when playing online otherwise you'll loose this feature. Even uninstalling and reinstalling the game doesn't fix it, the only way (right now) is to completely start over fresh.

FYI, there was a PS3 System Update last night, 3.56.
You'll need to download and install this before it will allow you to sign in to the PSN. Update took about 5mins when I did it today.

I think for spec races we should only restrict what the game will restrict:

-No ASM
-No Skid Recovery Force
-No Active Steering
-Weight Restrictions (Stock or rounded down to the nearest setting)
-Tire Restrictions (Racing Hard?)
-HP Restrictions (Post Oil Change, rounded up to the nearest setting)

With horsepower and weight restrictions you can't enter a number, you have to use the slider and it doesn't increase by +1, so it will be rounded up to the nearest setting for HP, and down to the nearest setting for weight.

Obviously we can easily do make/model/year restrictions, but suspension restrictions, flywheel mods, driveshafts, aero, etc (anything that doesn't effect weight, horsepower or tires) will be allowed.

BTW the M3 Coupe '07 stats:
92,400cr
1655kg
404hp stock (423hp post oil change)

Also, reminder that in order for you to use the car in an online race you must make it one of your Favorites.

-ABS & TCS will be permitted

The driving line is garbage anyways, anyone who follows it will be slow.

I don't have enough car control to follow it anyway. ;)

It was pretty fun. Paul M. is really fast, he should have his own restrictions. Until the rest of us can catch up. Looking forward to the next race night.

How does Sunday night work for people?

Following restrictions:

-M3 Coupe '07
-Racing Hard Tires
-1650kg Min Weight
-424HP Max

Charged Bluetooth Headsets Strongly Recommended!

EDIT:
Any Bluetooth headset will work, just make sure to pair it with your PS3.
Futureshop has a good selection as well. http://www.futureshop.ca/Search/SearchR ... ewall=true

The Sony PlayStation 3 Eye USB Camera will work too as it has a built-in mic. Plus you can use it for head-tracking in arcade mode.

I don't have a wheel. Just takes a bit of practice to be smooth with the controller :P

I was thinking of a points structure, if we want to get serious.....

15mins qualify for each race.

Qualifying Points
1st - 10pts
2nd - 7pts
3rd - 4pts
4th - 1pt
5th- 12th - 0pts

Grid will be reverse qualifying, so 1st starts from last.
Clean racing, so this should be interesting.

Race Points
1st - 20pts
2nd - 17pts
3rd - 14pts
4th - 11pts
5th - 9pts
6th - 7pts
7th - 6pts
8th - 5pts
9th - 4pts
10th - 3pts
11th - 2pts
12th - 1pt

Just a suggestion, open to thoughts..... if we don't want points I'm good with that... less math.

Author:  Scott McIntyre [ Fri Jan 28, 2011 12:17 pm ]
Post subject:

If someone wants to keep track of points, I'm fine with that. We could post a table with the points tally in this thread. Might be fun.
