Just like the real world, it's that time of year again. iRacing is priming up for the 24 hours of Daytona, and I was wondering if anyone from the Regulars and/or ARMS wanted to get a team together to run it. I believe the team max is 7 drivers, though the reality of the situation is the race does run from 8am January 23rd to 8am January 24th. The details are in the link below:

http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts ... ge#9480258

So...anybody up for making a team? What car would we want to race?

Tentative Team List:
Ryan Quinn
Art McEwan
Trevor Mack
Ken Mckay
Brian Gay

All Times are presented in Eastern Times
Tentative Schedule:
Saturday, January 23rd:
0800 - 1000: Art
1000 - 1200: Trevor
1200 - 1400: Brian
1400 - 1600: Art
1600 - 1800: Brian(?)
1800 - 2000: Ken
2000 - 2200: Ryan
2200 - 2400: Ryan
Sunday, January 24th:
2400 - 0200: Trevor
0200 - 0400: Ryan
0400 - 0600: Ryan
0600 - 0800: Ken

If I'm available, I'm definitely in. Team endurance events are a lot of fun!

I will keep a running tally of willing victims volunteers in the top list. I suspect most will lean towards GT3, and that will probably be the biggest group of people as well. I'll figure out what kind of stints we can look at (I think a 'typical' endurance stint is two hours) and then we can go from there.

Did Trevor indicate what his work hours are, Ken?

It would be cool if we had two teams, a GT and DP team!

Would be great, but we'll be hard pressed to full all 24 hours for one team alone.

Here ya go Ryan...

10:00AM-1:00PM

If any of those times would work, then I'm in. No preference on car.

I should probably join that, since I'm organizing this little shindig.

It would be cool if we could run two deeps in each class, but that will depend on how many people we can rope in. As much as I wish I could convince 12 people to run 1 two hour stints, most don't enjoying staying up into the morning hours.

Are you volunteering, Brian?

I'll offer up my team for this endeavor. It's currently called Irregulars. Ryan, Brian and I are already on it. I just sent out a bunch of invites. Let me know if you didn't receive one and plan to join the event.

Practice, Practice, Practice! Daytona is a tricky track, even for the experienced people in the sim. The important part is that we would all have to use the same set up.

The advantage of these events Shawn is that it doesn't matter how good or bad you are. There are no real standings or awards for doing well; iRating is irrelevant. This is just to have fun, and as long as you keep it out of the barriers/competitors, then you're more than welcome to come :)

The event details says
Resets: None
Repairs: On

So what does that mean in terms of crashing the car? Does no resets mean no fast repairs?(eg. minor repairs will just cost time in pits, but a heavy crash will end the race?)

BTW haven't committed yet as still not sure will be available that weekend.

I'm not sure what the resets are, though my guess would be being able to come back from terminal damage, or using the insta-tow that you have in Practice sessions.

Sounds like it is set up as a standard 'official' iRacing session.

Essentially it means that there are no fast repairs and no resetting the car to brand new. If you take on damage during the race, you will carry that damage to the end unless it gets (partially) repaired in the pits.

On that note, pretty much anything can be at least partially repaired in the pits. You'll loose a lot of time sitting in the pits during the repairs, and you'll loose aero efficiency after you get back on the track, but taking full (required & optional) repairs usually brings the car back to a drivable state.

So there should be no reason why the team cannot drive the car to the end of the race no matter what happens. That is so long as the drivers can accept driving a slow & ugly car post-repairs.

Of course, it's best to avoid crashing in the first place. It is much better to drive slow & safe than fast & crash in a 24-hour race. Attrition is high, and usually the team with the least damage wins.

Hey Everyone!

We are 6 days away from the iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona, and I'm just reaching out to see if anyone else has drummed up some interest in running.

I know currently we have Art and Trevor showing interest in running, with myself filling in as necessary, but as you can imagine it takes more than three people to get a team through the 24 Hours.

I'm more than willing to run the graveyard shifts for as long as possible, but I won't enter a team if we don't have enough to realistically cover the daytime as well. Based on what was said, it looks like Trevor and I could tackle the night time but that's only half the battle.

If I can't get between 4-6 people committed to at least jump in for sporadic stints then I'll call it off. I know it's a big commitment, which is why I hold no grudge or ill will if it can't be done. Life is the priority and this is just for fun.

Still, would be a hell of a ride! Let me know what you've got and we'll go from there.

I've done a number of these 24 hour iRacing events and they are a LOT of fun. Team endurance events are a completely different experience than your typical sprint races.

Chances are someone on the team will either wreck or get wrecked, but don't let that deter you. Any damage can be repaired in the pits; at least to the point where the car is drivable and the team can continue. So there's no excuse to not run the car to the end. You can make up a lot of positions while other teams are getting repairs (or dropped out).

I will be participating in the event, but I'm committed to my sim team TNT Racing so I will not be able to run with the Regulars. If iRacing allowed a person to register for two different teams in the same event, I would run both, but they don't.

You are welcome to use the Irregulars team though. Seven people are already members and I made Ryan & Art admins of the team. Feel free to rename the team as well if you prefer.

Hope to see you all on the track!

Ryan and Regulars drivers,

About 10 years ago Trevor, Art and myself along with 6 or so other drivers ran an on-line 24 hour race and it was one of the best sim racing experiences I’ve had, so if you can find the time even to do just one stint I think it will be well worth your time.
For those of you who know Trevor you might ask him how old he was when he ran that race.

While I’ve been inactive with the Regulars these past several months I hope to see you guys on track when I return from Florida in March.

Just a note to everyone that I posted the schedule as it stands.

If you can fill in the gaps that remain to help us make the Daytona 24hrs, that would be an amazing help. Of course, things can be moved as long as everyone involved agrees.

If we don't get a less 'holey' schedule by tomorrow then I'll shelve the plan until the next Endurance race and go run around at Brands Hatch.

Lets do it!

I'm still thinking about it, I've been practicing with the Z4, is that the car we'd use? And how do these team events work? I've never done any before...

You can put me down for the 18-20:00 (7-9pm Atl time, right?) shift Sat evening and the last shift Sunday morning.

Yeah a refresher on the driver swap procedure wouldn't hurt:
http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts ... 79175.page

I've joined the irregulars team (thanks for the invite Scott), and the team should be registered by the time I show up so hopefully it should be straightforward once I read all of that.

If someone figures out what setup we are using point me to it.

Initially we were planning on using the Z4, however in some testing Scott has found that the MP4-12c is far faster around Daytona. Not sure what they did with the iRacing BOP, but the Mclaren seems to be a lot more efficient in its aero this year, and that matters for a lot around this track. Enough downforce to be quick in the infield and slippery enough to fly around the oval. I have a set up I'm working with now which is relatively gentle and easy to drive. I will share it this evening.

Don't worry if you started practice with the Z4. Gives you good exposure to the track.

Additionally, I will make myself available to everyone for questions or guidance as needed. I've done a few team races now, so I've figured out most everything there is with this sim hahaha.

As for how it works....

Perhaps we can plan a practice session tomorrow evening to go over the car and how to run things. They have team practice sessions for the 24 hours, so it would be worth it for those who can join.

Let me know what you guys think!

Glad to see this taking shape.

FYI, the Team Session tab (under Teams) is currently broken. The only way to join a team session already in progress is to use the Sessions button within the team itself in the My Teams tab, as illustrated below:

Just so everyone has it, you should be able to download the setup from this link:

Give it a shot, and see if you like it.

So Shawn, ya in??

I will try out your setup tonight for a few laps and see if I feel comfortable enough to commit to a session or two.

Would be great to have you, Brian. Considering how fast you got acclimatized to the Nordschleife, I'm sure Daytona should be a walk in the park for you ;). I know Trevor Mack wanted to do a practice session tonight as well, so perhaps you two could link up.

Unfortunately I won't be able to practice tonight, but I managed 21 laps last night.

An official team test session would be great. It would give us a chance to work together and all test at the same time.
I know Trevor is fast, maybe he can help with pointers!

Are you part of the Regulars Yahoo! group, Brian? If not I would suggest joining it, since it would help in organizing something with Trevor. You do need to make an account unfortunately, but it has been an invaluable resource for organizing this.

I'm out, I can hardly complete a clean lap with the MP4/setup combo, if I'm not wrecking through the kink in the infield I'm wrecking through the bus stop :?
