Post subject:  Re: GT6 - SnailRacing.org (Jan 5th)

Snail has 7 divisions, with D1 being the fastest and D7 the slowest.
I was placed in D3 for my initial night.

Varga, Aleks & Jon all tried to qualify for Sunday, but I guess they were overwhelmed. Too bad I would have enjoyed racing against them.

First race, qualified P2, a 1/2 second off P1.
Not knowing these people I was a bit trepidacious going into the first corner and lost several positions, ending up in P6.

Over the next 7 laps I battled back up to 3rd place and there was a 2-3 second gap to 4th place. So I battled with P1 and P2. P2 and I had a really good fight, we exchanged positions 3 or 4 times over the last 2 laps. In the end I finished P3, 0.1 behind P2 and under 1 second behind P1.

Second race was reserve grid based on the last results, meaning I started 3rd last, with 13 people ahead of me.
The first lap was crazy, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I kept my nose clean and when the dust settled I was 10th. I fought over the next few laps and made it up to 5th place. P1 from the previous race was 11th and P2 was 6th right behind me.

Third race was in the Mustangs, I qualified poorly (8th out of 16), but in lap 1 I managed to make it to 5th, where I stayed for the race.

Fourth race, again a reverse grid. I started with 11 cars in front of me but managed to make it to 4th position by the hairpin, and that's when the game lagged. The 3rd place car "teleported" in front of me at the hairpin and I slammed into him. I had minor damaged so I pulled off the racing line, but by the end of the lap the other cars were "dancing". I got disconnected just before the straight on the first lap. When I rejoined the room, 2-3 others had dropped as well. One person said they saw my car going in reverse passing him just after the hairpin, so they knew it was lag.

Dropping during quali or a race is counted as a DNF, which is awarded last place points.

Fifth race in Suzuka, I qualified 5th... nearly 2 seconds off P1, but less than 1/2 a second off P2. Just as we went to grid a number of us were dropped again. So I had to sit another race out.
The only benefit is that for the next race I would be near the front of the pack. As it turns out I was placed P2 for the next race. I held onto P2 for the first corner and managed to take P1 before the end of the lap.
The next lap I went wide in turn 1 and rejoined in 4th. I managed to fight back to P2 and thanks to a mistake at Spoon from the lead car I took the lead. Going into the final two laps I could see the guy who qualified 2 seconds ahead of me coming through the pack. We were side by side crossing the finish line for the last lap, he had the inside I had the outside to turn 1. I never like being on the outside, so I gave him a little extra room and it was all he needed to take the lead. I followed him closely through the S curves and actually was gaining on him, but there was no where to pass. He defended his line in the hairpin and that's what I reserved myself to 2nd place. I finished less than a second behind him. He said after that race that if he hadn't passed me in turn 1, he couldn't pass me anywhere else. Doh! ;)

Finished racing a little after 1am.... good thing I work from home on Mondays.

I don't know how their points are calculated but I placed 7th out of 16 for the night. Including my disconnections (DNFs) :x

I've been playing GT6 (and GT5) from day 1 and I've never been dropped so much before. I've seen others have problems, I know it's not my speed because I have 80/mbps internet so the "weakest link" has to be somewhere else. There's no documentation on how GT6/GT5 servers/hosts/clients all work together so it's all blind guess work.

How did Varga do? I saw him race before logging off. 1am is pushing it for me when you have to work the next day, I will probably do the first four races after they sign me up.

They wouldn't let Varga or Jon race (they didn't get everyone's form completed in time)
So I found Varga holding his own in a "SNAIL Misfit Room" after the race.

Yea I'll probably pass.... 11pm start time... they are going to be at least 3hrs.... 2am bedtime... and then repeat tomorrow night.

I'd love to but they need to start earlier in the evening.

Going to watch a movie with Jen, depending on when it finishes and how I feel will dictate if I enter the enduro or not tonight.

Well I benefitted from someones Lagginess pushing me down the straight twice...then finally on lap 27 of 36 the lagger slammed me into the wall and i lost 3 positions (engine-dead and all of my right side)......I ended up in 7th position up to the last corner when 6th place guy spun after the corner....I finished 6th!!

I was as high as 1st-2nd swap for 4 laps when I got slammed!!

Guess what...the lagger won the race....LOL!!

I missed one pit....I drove from lap 14 to 36 on one set of RS.

It was fun to find some speed from this car....Toyota 86 race car
