Time to select a car for the 2013 Season 1 Series of the ARMS iRacing League! 8)

This season we will run a biweekly single-seater road series with one of the cars listed above. You can vote for your two most favorite, but only one will be selected for the series. The poll will remain open for 1 week, during which time you may change your vote at any time.

Track selection will be based on the iRacing official series for whichever car is selected. That way you'll have the iRacing practice servers available all week to prepare for the Friday evening league race.

Let the voting begin! Image

BREAKING NEWS!

The Atlantic Formula Racing Association (AFRA) has generously offered to award a prize to the series champion providing that we select an open wheel car. The prize would take the form of a FREE AFRA Lapping Day or 50% off Lapping School (in 2013) at Atlantic Motorsport Park, providing the winner meets the requirements to enter such an event.

So if you would like an opportunity to win a free AFRA Lapping Day or 50% off Lapping School, be sure to change your vote above to either the Skip Barber Formula 2000 or Star Mazda.

Hi Scott,
I voted for the Riley and the Radical. Love both those cars, however, I would have chosen the SRF if it was listed. That hateful little car is so hard to drive it makes everyone look as inept as me!
Later...

Thanks Rick. While the SFR is indeed a single seater, I did not include it as we're just finishing up with a rookie car and (as you said) it is a difficult car to drive. That being said, there's no reason we could not consider it for a future series!

I recently dusted off my old SFR and after having a year of experience in the iRacing service, I found the car much easier to tame. Could be fun.

That's great. But are you sure this isn't just the GT5 crowd trying to mess with the car selection again? :orgshifty:

Skip Barber Formula 2000 wins!

So for 13S1 we will run two series concurrently, alternating each week. First will be the Miatas on Feb 1, then the Skippy on Feb 8.

I'll post up a full schedule later, and Ryan and I will start setting up the sessions within the league on iRacing.

Should be fun!

I recommend the last 2 2000 races be at the big tracks, not the smaller club tracks.
We are doing "small" tracks with the Miata's, lets stick to the real ones with the 2000's?

For the F2000 series, Scott used the 2013 S1 schedule for the Skip Barber Series. I'm sure if we ask real nice he will switch it up though

Yes, I followed the official Skip Barber series tracks for the weeks we're running the car. My thinking was that it'd give us the opportunity to use the official series to practice for the league races and vice versa. Plus it makes it easier to find current setups for the tracks as they're usually posted in the Skip Barber forum each week.

That said, if the majority want to switch up some tracks and/or layouts, then we can certainly do that. Keep in mind though that longer track configurations lead to a more strung-out field.

Ok, I will admit that I don't have much seat time in the Skippy. Probably has something to do with I don't seem to get much enjoyment out of that car for some reason, everyone likes different cars for different reasons and this car is not doing it for me.

So, I had a few minutes to kill tonight and thought I would jump in the Skippy and give it a honest go at Sebring for practice before Friday...well...nothing has changed, that car is total crap, it's not fun to drive, it's extremely twitchy, and there is ZERO room for error. I did not vote for this car but the majority wins and it looks like we are running that crap can. Alot of people are still learning in our series, not everyone is A license and even an A license person like myself continues to learn every time I jump on the sim. I don't see this car being fun for close "bumper to bumper" racing if there is any, and God forbid if anyone up front makes a mistake and they may just collect half the field. Then we have to wait a half hour before we can get past the frustration levels of crashing early before the next race starts.

I voted for the Riley but would be perfectly happy with Star Mazda or even F1 for that matter, just not the Skippy.

End of rant before season starts.

I could go for the Williams! Be good for Scott too, having watching one of his races earlier today.

I hate the Skippy, I won't be running the series alternate weeks that use it.
I joined the first week we used it, did a few laps and bolted, its just no fun spending the entire time trying not to crash, and that is all that car wants to do.

I wanted the Star Mazda too. How did the Skippy get so many votes?

The Skippy is an odd little beast. It's slow but very challenging to drive. And while it does not have a lot of setup options, it's easy to mess things up and make it undrivable.

The key is to find a good stable setup and do lots and lots of practice. Then once you get the hang of it, the car is actually quite enjoyable and rewarding.

Whether it's the best car for our series is another matter.... But the majority rules. :crap:
