Since this will be our first time attempting a series with this game, rules & regulations are subject to change.

I know it's a departure from GT5, but I'd like to give this series a go. It may flop but it maybe fun. I think it's worth a try...

Signup if you're interested.

Although this looks very interesting I will be out of this series. Need to study for a course until April and then it's spring again, track days, riding schools etc. I saw two crazy people on a sportbike today, was very jealous. I will buy this game if we decide to run this next fall instead of GT5.

F1 2012 allows for AI players (of varying difficultly) to play online during multiplayer races.
Might be interesting to do a "teams" type thing.

Well, I found it. Count me in!

I tried a race online, first impression it was a real bunch of harseholes who thought they were playing a demolition derby or something.

The Sony 7.1 headsets do not work with F1 2012 (stupid Codemasters).

Steve, what headset do you use?

Just did a quick race with cheechoo.
He took pole by 0.5 seconds

During the race it wasn't about speed but minimizing mistakes and tire management.

His car did "teleport" twice at the very beginning of the race, but other than that no issues.

It was nice to know the split times to/from the car ahead/behind you.
Also nice to see the sector times in qualifying.

One note, unless there is are any objections, Parc Ferme will not be enforced.
If it is enforced you can't make changes during qualifying once you hit the track. (Which is the way it is supposed to work) However since many of us use qualifying as practice it makes sense to not enforce it.

Damn this game is unforgiving, as soon as the tail kicks out a little, it's over, there's is no way to save it. I miss the comfort of my E-break. After my crash, I decided to spin the car around to skip going back and forth a thousand time just to turn around, but it turned out, it destroyed my tires. So by the the time I could make it back to the pit, I almost lost two laps lol. Plus, I kinda miss the lobby message board thing, since I have no mic, there's not much I can do to communicate.

One other thing I noticed, you don't pick your driver, you pick your team and there can only be two cars per team.

I'll adjust the regulations.

With that said, does anyone want to adjust their selection?
Varga you should join me at Red Bull, after all you start like Webber.

As a side note we could use AI to create teams if we want and/or fill in the field.

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

Well then, let's say I'll compare myself to Raikonnen, well at least to his Mclaren years when bad luck and mechanical failure struck him race after race(in my case, just internet failure lol). But, I guess I won't be able to manage my tires as he did at Albert park this weekend.
I was wondering, are we going to do a constructor championship as well? It would be cool, but it would mean that I'd need a team mate. I'd rather have a real person as a team mate then just the AI.
Also, is there anyone who's not celebrating St-patty's tonight and for some online racing?

Did a couple of races with Cheechoo, Varga and some AI, everything went well.

The "teams" aspect is very cool, and something I think we should explore.

Also a reminder to everyone to signup to racenet.com and link it with your PS3 account.

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

Ran 3 races last night with Cheechoo & Varga, this time with a full field of AI as well.

For me the only issue was qualifying, the AI wouldn't always yield (but then again if they are on a hot lap why would they). It really meant that I had to plan my lap, which was difficult.

During the race some backmarkers were easier to pass than others. Some would get right out of your way, however if there was a group of them close together I found they didn't yield as quickly.

Varga/John what were your thoughts?

For the races last night, the first two had a mix of Amateur & Intermediate AI, while the last race they were all Int AI.

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

Well, I had a couple of issue with the AI, mostly during the last race. I got rammed in the side in the middle of the straight, I got showed a blue flag for..I don't know what. Sometime some AI were lagging, the one that rammed me on the straight per example, was weaving from left the right(more like jumping from left to right). I don't mind dealing with them if we lack the decent amount of players during the race though. It helps feeling less lonely as a backmarker.

Other than that, I like the split screen and best lap infos. It keeps you in touch with what kind or performance the others are doing which GT5 lacked. The cars are quicker and trickier than the car we used to drive in our last GT5 series ( I believe it will come along slowly). And, this series might force me to get some cheap headset, because I'm almost feeling like the stig out there(well less efficient). So you might end up hearing my superb french accent during this one.

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

When I pitted during our last race, I quickly checked the "Race Director" screen (in the 3 seconds it took to change my tires) and saw you were in 13th.

At the end of the race when I crossed the line, my screen only showed up to 5th and you still were not listed, but you ended up in 3rd. Must have been a crazy last few laps.

BTW I just barely pipped you for the fastest lap.... difference of 0.003, but I admit that I made 2 pitstops during that race, so I would have fresh Option tires for the final 4 laps (and did some fuel savings so I could run a max revs without running out of fuel).

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

Yeah, actually, I've spun out about 4-5 times, Two of which I take full responsability, the others were stuff like getting poked in the back in the middle of an hairpin by an AI, or getting rammed in a straight line. So I went from 1st to like 16th, then from 10th to last, then again from 12th to 16th again, all the way down to 5th to 10th, to finally end up 3rd.(those numbers aren't exact but are pretty close). It was a crazy race all around!

And yeah, I know, this was the only lap I had breathing space to go around the track.

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

Yeah I spun out in turn two a few times as well......I think we should set AI to Legend and not worry about them....then transition to worrying about them as some of us become faster......Like me....

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

The spacing / lap times between Amateur, Intermediate, Professional, Legend are not equal.
There is a small difference between Amateur and Intermediate (maybe 1-2 seconds a lap), but a huge difference between Intermediate and Pro (like 5-6 seconds per lap).

You're right about the Legend setting, they pretty much run perfect laps.

Post subject:  Re: F1 2012 - Championship Series

If anyone wants to know how they are doing (compared to the rest of us), create an account on RaceNet.Com and link it to your PS3 account.

Then run a "Time Trial" (under main menu / "Proving Grounds") at a track (EG: Melbourne). Once your complete a clean lap, you're laptime will be uploaded to the cloud.
You can also find your Friends and download/ghost race their lap (to see where you're making/losing time).

You can also view it on the link below, so far only Varga & I are signed up and have put in times for Melbourne.
