Okay, so I was talking to Scott, and as a means to contribute I was wondering if the members of the league would like to stick with one car for the whole season (similar to what we did this season) or do an alternating system similar to what the Regulars do. (X car one week, Y car the next then back to X car)

My proposal is this: Every second week, we would have a Spec Miata race on tracks similar in size to AMP so ~a mile. Everyone has the car, it is a series we have in the real world, so I was wondering if there was interest in mixing this in.

Race format would be either 2 or 3 15-minute sprint races, depending on preference.

Any and all suggestions welcome since this would be my first stab at hosting.

I will run the poll for three days to see what everyone thinks.

I like it. Maybe we could somehow tie it in with the real ARMS Spec Miata Championship, to give them more publicity. Have the results posted on specmiatachampionship.com to give them more web traffic. Who knows, might recruit someone to the real series.

Ok, we only have 21 league members, but we're growing. :shuffle:

Okay, the vote is easily swinging in favour of having this series, so I made a provisional schedule of six tracks we could visit which fit the profile.

What do you guys think?

VIR- Patriot course
Lime Rock Park
Brands Hatch -Indy
Suzuka East Course
Summit Point Short
Mosport

I've yet to run 3 of those short configurations, but it looks good to me.

One good thing about running short tracks is that there's less space for our field to get all stung out, meaning more wheel-to-wheel action.

Looks good Ryan. Haven't run Brands Indy, but the rest should fit the SM well. The Jefferson layouts of Summit are also good for these cars if you get chance to try them sometime.

I was thinking about the Jefferson section of Summit, however I was hit with a desire to run some of the configurations which are part of the more common tracks, however they are not run frequently in the official series.

What can I say, I like mixing it up.

I'm all for 'mixing things up' and will race anything I own. Unfortunately, the MX5 is at the bottom of my list for fun and I would prefer a multiclass season with the MX5, SRF and maybe one other (or not). The Spec is always an attention grabber when you get behind the wheel. For those that can't get a handle on it, choose the MX5 and everyone is happy!

I hear what you're saying Rick, but I wanted to pick a simple series to start with that would mirror a series we're actually running outside of the sim world. I figured I would start small and then go from there for my first series.

That said, I would rather see the Spec Ford burn in a fire than share a track with it  Just kidding, but for now I am going to keep it as just Miata's.

How about Miata's and Jetta's. We have as many IT-B cars in our region as we do SM's so that might be fair?

That makes sense as well. I would be more inclined to agree if we had enough people consistently coming out to our sessions to justify a multi-class set-up, because if we take the Miata and the Jetta, stats would show that we would have three, maybe four people per class if it was split 50/50.

If numbers pick up during this season then I would be more than happy to have my series a mixed class event, but for now, just to have as many people involved in the scrap as possible I want to keep a single car.

Yeah, I don't think we have the numbers (yet) to support a multi-class series. Perhaps if we ran them in a combined class and tried to equalize the cars by adding a weight penalty to the Jetta, but that would be a real pain trying to figure out how many lbs at each track. Best to keep it simple IMHO.

So, with this series going ahead, I was wondering what everyone thought on layout.

Do we want to do 2 or 3 15 minute sprint races? I'm okay with setting up either, I just want to see what everyone thinks.

I'd say three sprints, with short qualifying sessions and only 10 minutes between the end of one race and the start of qualy for the other.

It's too bad we couldn't do it tournament-style within the league (i.e. reverse grid from previous race finishing order), but that functionality is not yet available in leagues.
