![]() ARMS iRacing League: Week 01 - Cadillac Cup @ Mosport ![]() Our first iRacing ARMS League race! One of the more challenging tracks on the schedule. The lack of sand traps makes for a lot of races ending on the tirewalls in T1 and T2. More races end at Moss as well. Let the Mosport carnage begin! ![]() League Members Top 5 1. Brian Weatherbee 1:18.730 2. Paul Machan 1:19.157 3. Scott McIntyre 1:19.198 4. Erik Dalla Riva 1:20.204 5. Stacy Chapman 1:23.874 World Records Prac: Dylan Sharman 1:16.802 Qual: Dylan Sharman 1:16.588 Race: Dylan Sharman 1:17.728 Track Guide (by Dylan Sharman) Turn 1 - Coming into turn one you want to position the car to the left so and keep it in fourth gear, try and get as hit the curbing on the inside if possible and keep the momentum up Turn 2 - When coming through turn 2 you really want to try and keep a tight line through the corner as its a long fast following corner, very easy to run wide on the exit and touch the grass, also very easy to run wide onto the grass and into the wall, so you want to get the car turned in early and try and hold it also its a fourth gear corner. Turn 3 - For turn 3 its the same as turn 2, very easy to run wide on the exit so make the apex and get the car turned, its a third gear corner. Turn 4 - depending on how you feel its really a slight lift reving out in fourth gear. Turn 5 - can be taken alot of different ways, in the video i take a wider entry to try and keep the momentum up for moss, back down into 2nd gear and try not to run wide onto the dirt as you will 9/10 spin if not go straight into the wall. Turn 6 - again its just a continuation of turn 5 so basically a double right hander, you want to try and take it as one, so keep the flow up so you can maximize your run down the long back straight. Big Note - Do not hit the curbing otherwise you will loose a ton of speed off the corner! Turn 7 - flat out. Turn 8 - fourth gear corner, try and keep the flow through the corner with momentum. Turn 9 - try not to over run this corner, its a third gear corner, really easy to over shoot it but then you will loose your speed through the next corner and down the main straight. Turn 10 - need a really good run through and off here so you can either defend your possible or try and gain. watch out for someone trying to make a dive at you though as you hang out wide on entry leaving a gap people think they can go for so really easy area for contact its also a third gear corner. and thats a lap of Mosport. |

You guys use your real names here? Huh, I just made up a name, and used that. So, if you see Dylan Sharman out there, it's me.

Surprisingly, only about half of our league members have set an official lap in the Caddy @ Mosport. So the Top 5 are the only 5. Heh heh Expect those lap times to drop tonight though.... Many people are reporting that they're 0.5 to 1 second faster since the new build. I have yet to run the Caddy, but I was over a second faster than my personal best in the Radical last night. |

Well, you can have run a 1000 laps in hosted sessions or in test, and not have set an official lap time. So not all are necessarily new to the car / track. But yeah, turn 2 takes no prisoners! |

iRacing Maintenance window beginning at 6:00 pm EDT, 2200 UTC Dave Kaemmer wrote: We are planning to do a maintenance window at 6 pm Eastern time (2200 UTC), to resolve some additional problems with our latest build. All the race servers will be shut down, and all sessions lost. There will be no official results from any cancelled sessions. We feel this is a better course of action than waiting for the sessions to finish, as many people are experiencing problems getting into servers, and we are currently doing a build update that should address the main issues. This way, that update will be deployed hours earlier. We do apologize for the inconvenience. We pride ourselves on creating high-quality software and a high-quality service, but the complex nature of software development often punctures our pride, especially when large changes are undertaken. Our team has worked very hard to make this transition to 64 bit, and to completely rewrite some of the foundations of the simulation and of the race servers and website to support team-based racing, of which spotting is just a first piece. Unfortunately, despite a great deal of testing, there are situations which we can't reproduce until a build is in your hands. I need to thank you for finding these issues so quickly! We very much hope this new update will address the main remaining issues, and you can all resume trouble-free racing. -Dave Kaemmer This may affect our league tonight, depending on when the site comes back up. Hopefully it'll be back for Qualifying #1 at 8:30pm. If not, it should be back up by Qualifying #2 at 9:30pm. Hope to see you there! |

I'll keep checking. I got a few laps in before the server shut down and I just don't understand...me + Caddy + Mosport = crash fest...I have no idea why. |

Hi Brian. Try braking earlier and and not as hard . Same with turning in, a little earlier and more gradual. It's is hard to judge distance and speed in 2d. It seem for me the earlier I brake the faster I go. Its very easy to drive in too hard, and the faster you try to go the more you tend to do it. I went through a phase of that for a long time. Very frustrating. Also good pedals help, I don't have great pedals ,but not stock either. Modified g25's. Bondar box, increases the res from 256 to 1024,4x the points to work with, and extensions to increase the travel by about 4x. Really helps to squeeze the high powered cars off the corner more consistent. Oh, and 10000 laps help too. |

Weatherbee is right on the money. I was really struggling in practice earlier this evening. Then I started braking & turning in way early, and very gently. Suddenly the car started behaving and I set a new personal best lap time... Got down into the 1:18s. I also made a bunch of tweaks to the baseline setup which really helped get the car to turn. Less front brake bias, some toe out, and more negative camber all around. I'll share my setup if we get online tonight Speaking of which, presuming the site comes back up in time for us to race tonight, I'll send out another league email to let everyone know we're back in action. |

Weatherbee and Scott, thanks for the advise, I know I said earlier that the problem is with the loose nut behind the wheel. I think my problem is just getting back into sim racing after a full season of real life racing where I can feel everything out in the car and progress from there. I know I am over driving the Caddy, I will have to force myself to slow down to go faster, go figure it works the same in real life! |

Hell of a time for iRacing to experience technical difficulties. This is what we get for getting the league started after the biggest update to their code yet |

So Scott... as the ARMS iRacing League schedule was made to coincide with the regular Cadillac Cup series, what now? Any chance we can have a makeup session sometime this week? (...So that my practicing every night at Mosport for 9 days straight wasn't for naught Stacy I'm down to 1:21.321 now |

(...So that my practicing every night at Mosport for 9 days straight wasn't for naught Stacy I'm down to 1:21.321 now That was my initial thought too... All that practice & setup work for naught. But then I remembered that the schedule repeats three times throughout the season. So the effort will not be wasted as will hit Mosport twice more...
While it's unfortunate we missed our first race night due to the maintenance outage, I think we should stick with the schedule to keep things simple and avoid the inevitable time conflicts some people will have. Instead, we can all focus our efforts on Laguna Seca this Friday! |

Stacy, Join the CASC-OR league. They are running at Mosport tonight starting @ 8:30pm with the Caddy or V8 supercar, your choice. They are also running at Summit Point with the same two cars starting @ 9:45pm. Good group of guys to run with and you would have your chance to not waste all your practice! |

Stacy would have to buy the Ford Falcon FG01 V8 to join the session, no? That was my issue. |

I'm not sure, with all the new settings in leagues is there not a way around that. There must be some setting somewhere that says if everyone has to own all the content or not to join the league. |

| Post subject: | Re: ARMS iRacing League: Week 01 - Cadillac Cup @ Mosport |
No, it's not a hosting option / setting. It's a limitation of the service. Unless you own all the cars being used within the hosted session, you cannot join. We experienced this ourselves last year when we tried to run the Skippy / SRF / MX-5 together. Those who didn't own the Skippy could not join unless they bought it: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=11111 I believe there is one exception to this rule... And that is if you choose the cars from an official mixed class series (i.e. iRacing GT Challenge), then people can still join without owning both cars. But I've not tested this myself. |

But I registered early, changed my schedule, tuned the car, paid my (i)money, did the online pre-registration thing! ...oh, wait that's thread from another webboard I totally understand, hard call to make and sucks for everybody including the organizer. It is kinda funny how virtual really does model real life, eh? I had to leave work early to take care of something booked a month ago for Friday night, tell my wife how we couldn't go out after all as it's going to be up and running by 9:30pm (not So I appreciate the alternative event suggestion ...but it's on to Laguna Seca for me to practice, practice, practice again before next Friday night. BTW any in car videos of a Caddy running at Laguna Seca around? I literally went frame by frame of that last video to compare my replay of lines, braking points, etc... and it was a big help! Thanks Stacy |
