My race started well. I adjusted my diff on the starting grid and made an excellent start, even with a stalled car ahead of me.
After turn 1 it was clear that Steve & cheechoo had good pace. So my goal was to put as many good laps in at the beginning while everyone was still contending with traffic.
On lap one I made slight contact with Rob at the second of the Lesmos but I think we both escaped damage. Then I saw cheechoo in the gravel, I knew then that I really had to take advantage of the clean air.
Steve & I traded places (mostly via pit stops) over the next dozen or so laps. I was very slowly pulling away from Steve, but I had one eye on cheechoo. I was surprised when he dropped but I see now why.
About 1/2 way through the race I had eeked out a comfortable lead over Steve however a miscalculation on my part resulted in contact with Brian as I came out of the parabolica. I took heavy damage on my front right & left. I finally managed to get the car collected by turn one and then had to drive all the way around. By the time I was fixed Steve had over taken me.
I spent the next laps closing the gap to Steve, and when he pitted I pitted.
After what seemed like ages I was able to retake the lead. Rob was my next worry, because he was on a different pit strategy.
An accident resulting in minor contact (sorry Steve, my fault) around lap 75 brought me into the pits for an unexpected pit stop and put me squarely in Rob's sights.
In the end I was able to hold off Rob and take the win. It was also nice (for some) that the weather held out for the entire race.
