If you voted "Yes" in this poll, please select whether you would like our Cadillac Cup series to have FIXED or OPEN setups.

Keep in mind that the baseline fixed setup can be used in both a FIXED or OPEN series, but only an OPEN series will allow you to tweak it.

The poll will remain open for 3 days, during which you may change you vote.

When you say "fixed" does that also apply to the driving aids in the lower right of the option menu?

Setups are just in the GARAGE. The OPTIONS menu is completely separate.

Although driving aids are disallowed (but clutch assist is ok).

I really don't think it makes a big difference. The base set up is pretty good, very stable. Its good for at least low 1:18's at Mosport. Open set up might make the the faster guys a little bit faster. But if you are not close to what the car can do I don't think a set up will help you much. I will be running the base set up myself either way. I just haven't had time to mess around with it. Sometimes you can set up the car to suit a driving style, but I think it's better to try to give the car what it wants. More time in working on racing line, hitting your marks and being smooth with control inputs.
So I don't know, with fixed everyone is the same , open maybe some might feel a little more comfordable. And with open you have an excuse if you are slow, lol. As some of the stockcar guys say "jack yourself out of the show"
All of this only applies if we are not doing ovals with the Caddy, are we? If we are then an open set up would be great.
You guys figure it out, I think I am going to spoil my ballot.

No ovals this first series / season.... We're following the iRacing Cadillac Cup schedule.

Maybe next season we can run two series at once, one road and one oval, alternating every week.

I know in the past I have heard a lot of complaints about how the Caddy 'feels' in terms of braking and steering. Time wise I doubt an open set-up will make a difference, but there are some of us with particular driving styles (me, for example) who go crazy when not able to tweak a car to make it more drivable and comfortable.

For me at least, that helps me avoid crashing and ruining anyone else's race accidentally in the process, so I'd prefer to keep an open set up option.

Short answer: No preference.

This is going to be an "arrive and drive" series for me. So if open I'll be begging for a setup or using the same one each race. If the baseline is reasonable then fixed is fine too. When ran the CTS for a season I don't think my setup changed once I found one that was stable (and I think it was fairly close to the baseline).

I'd prefer to have the "driving aids" found in the OPTIONS menu, which seems to be there whether a Fixed event or not...

For instance I've driven the CTS-V in the Cadillac Cup series (which I believe to be a Fixed series event?) and the "driving aids" were available, so I'm not sure why it would be different in League racing?

Thanks

Good point. Having them turned off was the default value, but I can certainly turn them on.

I'm not sure what the "relaxed camera views" is... Racing in the chase cam perspective?

TV3 Cam. Have to race via the marshall stands.

It's funny because the base setup at Mosport and I do not get along well at all. I can hardly string a few laps together without crashing, the car just doesn't seem to want to turn when I want it to. What fustrates me more is I know the correct line around this track as I have ran there in real life a few times. A few minor tweeks to the car setup and all of a sudden it handles the way I want it to with my driving style (whatever style that is). While I still believe the problem is with the loose nut behind the wheel I am in favor of fixed setups for this series because the iRacing series is fixed. On Monday night I ran with the CASC-OR guys in Ontario for their league and we ran the DP cars at Mid-Ohio and Barber, those were not fixed setups because they are not fixed in the regular series and everyone shared their setups if anyone had asked for them. So for our series I'm actually ok with whatever we do because it will be fun either way, the base setup and the Caddy and I @ Mosport will just have to learn to get along!

Curious as to why there is a need to mimic the iRacing series? One of the things about setting up a league is that it allows things to be changed that might not quite suit the cars or a group of drivers. If most are planning on running the official series then keeping things similar makes sense, but if most aren't then perhaps tweak things that better suit the group. Though figuring out what a group wants is not always easy. :)

FWIW we've picked a fairly difficult car to drive IMO. While it's a "rookie" car it's only classed as such because that was one of the terms included in the licensing deal, not because of its ease of use. Even with open setups it's a bit of a handful. A lot of focus is required just to keep the car on the track, which doesn't leave much left to focus on racing. At least that's been my experience.

Post subject:  Re: ARMS iRacing League SETUP Poll

I think it's time to reiterate the point that if people want to use the league to assist them for the official series, the baseline 'fixed' set up is always available via the iRacing Setup tab in the Garage. As Brian pointed out some of us like the tailor the car to suit how we drive not only to make the car faster, but ultimately to help our feeling so we can string together a safe race for ourselves and everyone around us. We could make agreements that everyone has to run the base line of fuel, for example, so others cannot gain the performance advantage of running lesser loads over those who are using the fixed set up for a test bed. Call it a 'performance balance ballast'

Ultimately, going with the open set up option will leave everyone involved happy, so the tweakers can tweak, and those who which to use the baseline either for practice or to 'show-up and go' can do just that. Limiting it to purely fixed will unfortunately leave those of us who like to find that little bit extra to make the car better for us out in the cold.

In the end this is a democratic process, and the majority will decide, but I figured it would be worth it to show a win-all for everyone involved by using the Open Set-Up option.

Post subject:  Re: ARMS iRacing League SETUP Poll

The poll closed with a tie... 4:4.

Therefore I'm going to make an "executive decision" and make the series OPEN setup. The reason being that it's the only option that allows both parties to run the setup they want. For example, the half who voted fixed are free to run the baseline setup, and the other half who voted open are free to run personalized setups. I feel this is the fairest option for all concerned.

Now this means that I have to go through and edit each of the 24 session I had already created. :crap:

I am not competing, or playing, whichever way you look at it, but IMO, those who opted for the fixed set up didn't choose it because it was their favourite set up, but because it makes the series more fair, even playing field, driver vs driver, etc. Again, my 2¢, from an outside prespective.

Thanks Scott for all your time and effort you have put into getting this setup and running. I am fine with open setups, your are correct in saying that in the end a decision still needs to be made and that is just what you did.

I look forward to racing with everyone this Friday night!

I can see what you're getting at Brian, and I understand. In the end though we're all still running the same car, I don't see us having open set-ups being different than the freedoms provided by any other spec series, either in iRacing or in the real world. The Cadillac isn't really one of those cars which can find amazing performance in a different set-up, it's mostly just for driver comfort.

Good input though! Thanks!

By that definition, the GT5 series would not be fair neither because it does not have fixed setups.

No problem Brian. It's been fun getting it all setup and trying out iRacing's new league functionality. I'm looking forward to racing online with everyone again!

Oh, it likely is, don't recall saying that it was fair at all, nor would I know. Like I said, from an outside view, I don't play either, but have tried both, just not online. Carry on!
