Post subject:  X-box racing/driving simulator

Hi folks, it's been a long time since I have posted here. Between my last regular post and now I have done time at sea (I am in the navy for those who don't know me) and been transferred to Ottawa (my family is still in Halifax as I will be coming back in a year or so).

Due to medical reasons I have recently had my driving privledges suspended for a year (not due to DUI, it was an as yet undiagnosed seizure). Today I put my Mustang under a cover, which hurt quite a bit.

So I am going to see if some virtual driving/racing might help bridge the gap until I can get on the road again. I have an X-Box 360 I've been using to play through the Halo series.

What would be the best game for a realistic driving sensation on that system? Any recommendations for a wheel/pedal controller?

Thanks
Art

Hey Art! Great to see you post again!

I would recommend F1 2011 for a game. The 2012 version is coming out in September and will have that newfangled F1 track in Texas :D That might be worth a look!

I heard a lot of people enjoy Forza Motorsport 4 too, but I never played it so I don't know.

I do most of my virtual racing on PC, so I have no idea what wheel is available/compatible for Xbox.

For the record I own a Logitech Momo Racing wheel and I highly recommend Logitech for any wheel. Really sturdy and reliable. Mind you I have no idea if they make any that are compatible for Xbox.

Not all that informative, but I hope it helped at least a little bit!

Wheel support is pretty limited for the XBOX. You can get the Microsoft wheel, but it's just barely adequate. The only good wheel compatible with the XBOX is Fanatec. They have a number of different models & price ranges. The Forza Motorsport CSR Elite being the cream of the crop. If that one is out of your price range, I'd look at the Forza Motorsport CSR.

I know you want suggestions for the XBox, however if you'd like to play against ARMS members in a civilized fashion, GT5 on the PS3 has had the most success of any game/system. A distant second would be iRacing on the PC.

Well, there's a fair number of us that have iRacing accounts. It's just that it seems Ryan & I are the most active currently.

In any event, unless you already have a decent modern computer, it can get quite expensive. Especially more so than a console. But hard to beat if your ultimate goal is a "realistic driving sensation". 8)

I use te Fanatec CSR. It works great on te XboX and in my experience Has been a good deal.

Art..."good to hear your voice" again...hope you get cleared to ride the black top in the very near future, with no major medical issues.

BTW...Scott McIntyre has vacated his Talon and now only races in the virtual world !!!

Change over to the PS 3...Costco has a smoking deal on the complete 3D system and come play with the " not for real " racers of Arms !!!

Currently I am away from the electronic race scene and out in the lands of another game having a little RnR...but I will return shortly..."if I can find my way home that is" ?? :?

Take care Art.

Hi all! Thanks for the input.

Hmmmmm, the decision seems to be between Forza and some average accessories or a trip to Costco for a PS3 and join the group here.

I think we may have a PS3 at home. If family isn't using it, maybe I will have them ship it too me.

I'll let you know what I end up doing :D
