Hmmm...at the moment it looks like the package has been sold...took about 10 mts...could be a new record!! One of our daily racers will soon have "WIDE" vision when he is on the track. |

It's probably a good thing that somebody had quicker fingers than me as it's not more monitors I need ...but a new wheel! Last night I "jumped in" with the other competitors during practice and they were doing things that I couldn't (turning when you wanted too, correcting their line mid-corner, catching slides, not locking their brakes every corner, etc...) which confirmed to me that I need to buy a new wheel first before upgrading my monitors But a racer should never blame his equipment, right? I know I sound like Dave's video http://armsinc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=11089 but with the borrowed G25 last week (...and I know that there is even better wheels out there) I think I could have had a 4th place if I didn't screw up at the end ...Mostly because of the multiple tows of those behind me, but again that shows that I was able to keep it on the track better because of the wheel (which I installed just before qualifying and never used before...) So when the new owner of these monitors goes by me (still... Stacy |

I think my DFGT wheel is dying, it seems to "clunk" at odd times, almost like it's skipping then catching a gear. I'm planning to take it apart after tonight to see if I can diagnose what is wrong and/or fix it. |

Stacy, if I were buying a wheel I'd be looking at the Fanatec Clubsport or CSR Elite, along with a set of Fanatec Clubsport pedals. Not cheap (in the same range as the Thrustmaster T500 RS) but from the reviews I've seen, you won't find a better setup for the money. It'd make the G25 seem like your Momo in comparison. |

Quote: Stacy, if I were buying a wheel I'd be looking at the Fanatec Clubsport or CSR Elite, along with a set of Fanatec Clubsport pedals. I agree! However there seems to be a LOT of defective (regardless of manufacturer) new equipment out there …everybody that buys the latest/greatest stuff seems to have some sort of issue while the old G27 seems very dependable? BTW Fanatec has no CSP (force feedback braking model) pedals currently available in North America for some reason? Thanks Stacy |

You might be able to order the Clubsport pedals direct from Fanatec in Germany. Maybe they're out of stock over here. The old G25/27 is pretty dependable, I'll give you that. I've never had an issue with mine. And it only cost me $160 brand new several years ago... A far cry from the $700+ the above mentioned setup would cost. But it would be soooo nice!

Stacy...they all have issues....my shifter was dead from the factory...saying that, they took very good care of me and sent a new one along ASAP. I like my thrustmaster 500RS set up but it depends what racing system you are going to compete in and as I was using mine with GT5 I bought a wheel that would work well with that platform and as it turns out it works great in Iracing as well. I have seen a pedal set that I want to purchase...it's a hydraulic set up and costs a small fortune but it would fill the weakest link in getting the "feel" of the Sim-car closer to the real thing. ...."only $17,000 for a full motion set up".... sweet Jezus !!! |

I went with Fanatec CSR right before Christmas. I have had no issues. I cannot blame my poor performance on my excellent equipment. |

Thanks guys! ...Yeah, I'm pretty well sold on the Fanatec too (mostly because of the CSP pedals, nothing to do with it being a Porsche wheel Here's a really good chart comparing wheels/pedals/and shifters: http://fanatec.de/html/pw_overview_de.htm So if someone see's a Fanatec deal ...or can find me a set of CSP pedals, let me know! I finally took delivery of my Fanatec Clubsport V2 pedals To begin with there is no software drivers shipped with it (which I understand as there will always be updates) ...but the piece of paper that comes with it says go to http://www.fanatec.com/support So you go to the page, pick your device and ...Error 404! So hours later I figure out that if you go to http://www.fanatec.com then manually select the "support" tab it goes to the same page and then works So the driver that it downloads after choosing the pedal option is for the steering wheel, but seems to adjust for the G27 when clicking on the Fanatec icon and all the tests go perfectly including the brake feedback vibration check. However when using it on iRacing the brake feedback is still in the steering wheel, so I try and load the patch I found in the iRacing forums but it says "no device connected". So I try the two patches found on the Fanantec site and it still says "no device connected" even though I am able to use it (just without the brake vibration, which is the reason I bought the thing!) So I contact Fanatec (no phone number, so it's via email in another time zone) and all I have got back for a message so far is "how have you connected the pedals" (which was with the usb cable provided) So now I sit and wait until the sun rises in Germany again... Just got this reply from Germany: Quote: Hi Stacy, thank you for your feedback. It sounds the pedal´s main-pcb is defective, but easy to replace. Would you please give me your shipping address that we can send you a new pcb. No I just bought the new V2 pedals... ![]() I'm happy with my (and Kevin's, and Jonathon’s BTW the adjustable load cell feature on the brake is very nice and the throttle and clutch feel is perfect. I just wish that I could apply the software drivers to switch the vibration from the steering wheel to the pedals Stacy |

...and now the pedals are as dead as a doornail It looks like Fanatec is sending the replacement parts to Calais where I intially sent the pedals (...I really don't know for sure as my request to send it to me here in Canada instead has gone unanswered Stacy "There seems to be a LOT of defective (regardless of manufacturer) new equipment out there …everybody that buys the latest/greatest simulator stuff seems to have some sort of issue" |

Yep, just got a confirmation one week later that USPS will be now picking up my replacement board "any day now" from Fanantec to be shipped to Calais? Saint John? BTW I'm not sure that it is heat from the computer equipment doing it as I have mine in the nice cool basement, but when I come back upstairs everybody thinks I was working out on the treadmill Stacy |

The last game I played on the "system" was Diablo III and there was water running down my glasses...now when I played any of the racing games it was just too much sitting next to the electronics and having no ventilation to the outside. So I moved the Diablo III system downstairs and I will wait for cooler weather to start up the racing system upstairs again...did I mention I live in an apartment...no basement for me! I need central air conditioning and a bigger place...sheeeesh! BTW...nice set up Stacy... |

Wow, those monitors are delicately balanced. Hope there's more supporting them than that 2" wide beam. |

Surprisingly enough the steel beam supports the weight, but I put a piece of Fibre guide under the ends to take some of the strain off... My plan is to redo it in aluminum like the rest of the rig with diagonal supports but never got around to it The rig started life looking like this: ...but after getting the used G27 wheel/pedals the next step was to upgrade the monitors (Hey, we are finally back on topic Suffice to say ...I highly recommend buying an ATI card only and running Windows 7 If anybody wants me to elaborate, feel free to ask and I can outline my tale of woe with me going in circles wasting a bunch of money and time. I'll have to upload pics I took of the iRacing rigs they had at the LaMay Automotive Museum in Tacoma. 3x40" screens, Racing seat on a full hydraulic gimble. They were selling track time at $8/6mins though. |

Truth be told I needed a project to gain aluminum welding skills and if a weld fails on Turn 7 at virtual Limerock it would be much less disastrous than Turn 7 at AMP Basically I took the measurements of the wheel, seat, and pedals relative to each other on my CRX and recreated it, which is much better laid out than any of my P cars (...keeping the pedals coming up from the floor for the P car feel though I even had a version where the speakers were the side mirrors which was really cool but unfortunately they were in the way of the new monitors. Multiple monitors, better wheel, better pedals, etc... still only bring me up to the skill level of some 13yr old new to the iRacing simulation because I just don't put the practice time in, but as a learning tool for the real thing I can see the potentional! I just have spent so much on hardware though that besides buying Mosport I'm reluctant to buy any other cars/tracks until I get better, thus keeping me out of the "Regulars Online Racing League". I just have spent so much on hardware though that besides buying Mosport I'm reluctant to buy any other cars/tracks until I get better, thus keeping me out of the "Regulars Online Racing League". Pretty much every week there's a new article published about some professional race driver praising iRacing and explaining how they use the sim to learn / practice on tracks in their real-life series. It definitely has merit as a learning tool, and it keeps evolving every new build. As for you getting better before purchasing additional car / track content... You'll never learn any of those tracks (or cars) if you don't drive them. Chicken and the egg. My advice is to pick a car / series you're most interested in, and buy the content required to run a full season. To save money, wait for special promos (like $100 CR for $75), then buy six or more items at once to take advantage of the volume discount. By compounding special promotions, you can save quite a bit over buying items one at a time. I'm at the point now where I have all the road courses, so my only expense is the membership fee. However, I compounded a couple promotions and extra credits and ended up getting a full year's membership for about $35. |

What's up with the $99 for a two year membership thing I got notice of recently? I am only half way through my first year... Does the 2 year term start on my renewal date 6 months from now? Thanks Stacy |

Stacy Chapman wrote: What's up with the $99 for a two year membership thing I got notice of recently? I am only half way through my first year... Does the 2 year term start on my renewal date 6 months from now? Yes, it's added to your current subscription. If you were on a month-to-month subscription plan, then it would start the following month. But it sounds like you are already on a yearly plan, so it would be tacked onto the end. It's a pretty good deal by itself. I hear that traditionally they have a Black Friday deal where you can buy 1-year for $49.99, so it's on-par with that. |
