Well I picked up a 256mb video card (for $35) but it doesn't run in my system. (or it's dead)
I'm going to try getting a power cable for it tomorrow incase it's just not getting enough juice.
My backup plan is to buy a used gaming machine online for under or around $200.

What style video card is it, if it doesn't work for your system it may work for me and I'd be interested in upgrading so I can run iracing as well.

I bought a G27 on Friday. I have to admit that I feel a lot more comfortable driving it with my gloves on too. I can't explain why but it just feels more comfortable.

I still need a lot of practice to drive without the physical sensations though. (Not saying that I don't need a lot more practice to drive the real thing too, of course. )

I have been watching the advancements in "motion control" systems for some time and it's good to see the price is finally coming down to just one arm and a leg...so you can still use the rig!

If insurance issues keep cropping up and risk management strategist have their way this maybe what we will all be using to participate in racing in the near future.

Hmmm...I wonder how long those Dell monitors last when subjected to those movements constantly ??

I just registered and used Paul. Looks like new cars for him.

Lots of configuring to get the game right but I finally got it up and running on the tv via hdmi. The game itself seems pretty good, I did Lime Rock and Laguna in the mx5 and solstice. It is definitely way more touchy than GT5, but it just requires a bit more time to get comfy with. The graphics are sh!t on my end though, running at 1366x728 I think. I also had frame rate issues at Llguna entering the corkscrew, I can only imagine how bad it will be with multiple cars. I love the amount of setup stuff and options though, tons of possibilities and places to race

I've got the following spare parts lying around that should make a decent iRacing system.

I'm running it off a relatively new core i3 laptop with 6 gb ram and a 600gb hd, it's likely my video processor bottlenecking me. I need to dig deeper in the device list to find the specs

I have all the road courses and all but a couple cars.

I run off a laptop with a so-so vid card, 9600gt, works out ok with some stuff turned down.

In general it a lot more involved than GT5, sometimes a bit more frustrating sometimes, but its more like the real thing in that way. You pay for your mistakes.

So I know I'm getting old and all, and your eyesight is one of the first things to go, but I'm having a really hard time with the graphics on iracing, with how jaggy the backgrounds are and how muted the colours are. Is it just me? We jumped back into GT5 last night and from a visual perspective it was like turning on a light switch. Are there any settings that will liven up iracing for the visually challenged or should I just go see a doctor?

Or maybe i just need to be taken out back of the wood shed and put down lol

Speaking of the colors jumping out at you in GT5, I was playing around with the settings on the PS3 last week and found my RGB settings set to limited, put them to full and it's like a whole new game! My computer is from the stone age, so iracing is not going to be an option for me, although I'd love to give it a try...

Iracing is just not that "visually" stunning as GT5 or Forsa 4....

...maybe someday they will put the whole package together in one bundle...

GT5 graphic are a bit better than iRacing, but it mostly has to do with how powerful your computer & graphics card is. If you have a so-so hardware setup, then graphics will suffer.

I have mine set to Class 2 (Options -> Graphics -> Performance) and it's not too bad. My computer doesn't have enough juice to run at Max Quality.

You need some serious HP on the computer side to get all of it from iracing, it is quite good if you can crank everything up.

I suggest turning things down until you stop getting any sort of jaggy stuff going on, that kills my eyes too.

This iracing is just too much effort for my liking. 18 different cables, subpar hardware leading to crap graphics, connection issues, etc etc etc. I like the way the cars feel, the track selections, the stat keeping and setup stuff, but it's too much work to have a little bit of fun on a Monday night. Especially when I can plug in the ps3 and be racing in two minutes and not have hardware issues. So those of you that have the gear to make it run, have fun, I'll stick to my arcade game.

i think you're doing it wrong

Iracing has to seen with triple screens, very immersive. Also you have to use the FOV calculator so distances are not distorted. Makes braking points a lot easier to hit. Frame rates have to stable and at least over 50 or 60, more is better. Some form of pressure brake pedal is a big plus.
Once you get a pressure brake pedal , then you need a cockpit. Your roller desk chair won't cut it any more. Get all that and a thousand laps or so and you will be fast. If anyone here would like to try a few laps on my setup, I am in Dartmouth. Welcome to come over for a spin. I am on iracing a lot so I am easy to find there.
I haven't to amp for a long while , but use to hang out there a few years ago.

Steve, another thing that can help is to shut down all unnecessary applications on your PC when racing. No email, bit-torrent client, instant messenger, etc. The only thing I have running is FireFox and my antivirus program. I even went so far as to create a second FireFox profile (with no add-ons) to run iRacing from. All these steps ensure iRacing gets full use of the computer's resources.

I am dedicating my photoshop computer to racing...with a few upgrades and three monitors.
The new Thrustmaster T500RS wheel system will be here on Friday so I should have a busy weekend getting it all straightened out.
...now I just need a room to house all this in...

Well...I'm back to square one with this triple monitor set up...after much searching and calling around it looks like the "eyefinity system" only works if you have a displayport enabled monitor or you have an active displayport adapter to allow a DVI monitor to be the 3rd monitor.
Sapphire came out with a "flex" technology that allowed the monitors to all be DVI BUT you need to specify this and ask for the video card with the flex package installed.
Bummer as I can't locate a flex video card and I am not paying an extra $140.00 for the adapter...drives me crazy living in this have not province!!
