Somebody buy this and sell me their old one! I just bought $2500 worth of hardwood and have no toy budget left.

Whatcha got? I'm going to need to do some Dirt 3 in between kid naps soon.

I used one of those MOMO wheels for a long time, they are fine, but it does lack the precision of the better wheels, will make it more difficult to be fast and consistent.
Also does not work with a PS3, PC only.

Switching gears, excuse the pun ...How does the GT3 RS V2 compare against the G27? (just in case Santa brings a PS3 and I need a better wheel :wink:

)

Hahaha, how did you know I have been leaning into the turns!!!

I would love to spend the money for even a cheaper wheel, but I'd rather spend it on my real car in the shop than the ones I'm pretending to drive!!

Fantec stuff is for the "wealthier" sim racer.

I know of a used G27 for $160

But before investing a bunch of cash into the hobby, I'd suggest clamping that old Logitech on your desk and getting to the game immediately. Then if it holds your interest, start upgrading your wheel / rig as you wish

My biggest problem is that my eyes (with contact lenses) really, really dry out when playing any video games. I even have problems when putting the game on a wall with a projector. So I guess I need some sort of misting system to mount in front of me or something ...or this is not going to work out :roll:

So here's a nooby question... What makes this GT3 RS V2 wheel (besides a clutch, much better build quality, and the threshold braking feedback feature...) any better than my Logitech MOMO feedback wheel for my PC? ...and maybe at this point your all rolling around on the ground laughing at me for comparing a toy to a precision tool Thanks Stacy

The wheel evolution is really moving along with more and more people wanting to sim race to practise the track layouts that they may run at. I have only used few wheel and pedal sets and I can tell you it's a touchy,feely thing for the most part...until you get to the high end belt drive systems...then its all about precision and consistency. Have a look at the ECCI systems at $1800 for the set up and look at the engineering and if you could try them out for feel and controls...just amazing stuff. If just having fun is your thing then just use the controller and lean your body when you come to a turn...works for Jason B. he's up front more often then not.

I'll just use my trusty Saitek R440. Works like a gem for Richard Burns Rally, Formula 1 2010/2011, Dirt 2/3...Grid...Need For Speed: Shift...I think I have an addiction.

Yeah, the Hans keeps getting in the way when I try to see who's at the door I've tried wearing my glasses but it doesn't seem to help much either. After a few laps it's like I have sand in my eyes ...paging Dr Gray, paging Dr Rosere I guess I must cringe enough everytime going into Turn 7 at AMP that my eyes get sufficiently hydrated when doing the real thing? Stacy BTW thanks Charles for seeing this deal on the wheel. Sounds like a few folks may have benifitted from your observation?

ok, cards on the table and times a tickin... I know of a used G27 for $160, but this GT3 RS V2 unit does look nice. Of course I don't have a PS3, but a while ago I started collecting pieces to build a simulator somewhat like this: ...just a little skinnier and more closed in on one side. At the time I started this project GT5 hadn't come out yet and I was building everything around a PC based unit with iRacing as the main program. But after building two mock ups (one steel, one aluminum) and tearing them up again to measure parts and get a little better at aluminum welding it could be the time to update my wheel mounting arrangement with something better as well now... So buy used, buy new, or stay with el cheapo wheel until I finish this thing and then buy an even better wheel that could be on the market then? What do you guys think? Thanks Stacy

Gord and Daph have a baby on the way, I'd say give him the lead on the G27 and you buy the GT3 RS V2 and you both come join us on GT5!

....Stacy, don't wait, buy the Fantec wheel and pedal set and get in the game...I have the G27 wheel and I say "YOU" will enjoy the Fantec wheel more then the G27. but thats just an opinion and I could be BONKERS!!

If I were buying a new wheel, I think I'd be looking at the Thrustmaster T500RS. It's probably the best of the "affordable" wheels currently, until you get up into the mega-$$$ ECCI, Frex, etc. stuff. But before investing a bunch of cash into the hobby, I'd suggest clamping that old Logitech on your desk and getting to the game immediately. Then if it holds your interest, start upgrading your wheel / rig as you wish. It's worth noting that many of the top sim racers in the world simply use an unmolested G27 clamped to their computer desk, sitting on an office chair. No fancy rigs or mega-expensive wheels.

Bolting on a desk is ok ...but after getting the pedals and wheel in the same position as my car (of which I took measurements off of my CRX as that has always been the most comfortable car to race) it really made it much more enjoyable and my lap times really improved ...so it's hard to go back to a desk. My biggest problem is that my eyes (with contact lenses) really, really dry out when playing any video games. I even have problems when putting the game on a wall with a projector. So I guess I need some sort of misting system to mount in front of me or something ...or this is not going to work out Stacy

Well, unless you really feel you NEED to be in full race gear and helmet to get into the game...
