GT5 24hrs of Nürburgring - October 14th/15th

Hello all,

I'm to the point in GT5 where the next race I need to complete is the 24hrs of Nürburgring. In the game it's an actual 24 hour race, that can not be fast forwarded or driven by the computer. It needs to be driven by actual people. The game can be paused, but when it's paused, so is the timer. So it needs to be run for 24hrs.

I know there are a lot of people out there that are interested in doing some GT5 driving so:

I'm inviting everyone over to take "shifts" driving the 24hrs of Nürburgring at my house.

No GT5 experience necessary!
However you will need to prove that you can set a minimum lap time. To do this we will have a second PS3/GT5/Wheel setup for practice. (Thanks Varga)

The game will simulate a real 24hrs day, with random weather and night driving.

We've decided on the Audi R10 TDI Race Car '06, please see the tuning settings below in the thread.

Many drivers make for lots of fun! Feel free to pick more than one time slot. We will do driver changes during the pitstops.

The best way to practice is to go into a Lounge (online) and select the 24h Nürburgring course, with tire wear and fuel load simulation on.
We are looking for the following lap times for the Nürburgring 24h Circuit:
Dry - 8min
Wet - 10min

I have a full race cockpit that is fully adjustable. It's seat is from a Dodge Neon ACR (thanks Brian P.) so you know it'll be comfortable. I've done the 4hrs of Nürburgring four times in the seat without any issues, plus it had over 10 drivers for the 24hrs of Le Mans race.

So think of this as a social event with the chance to take part in the 24hrs of Nürburgring!

Spectators welcome!

Any questions please let me know.

#######IMPORTANT#######
The only thing I ask is that you call 2-5mins before you arrive. We adopted a German Shepherd (Guinness) 3 months ago, and while he's extremely friendly, he still barks when people arrive and we are trying to curb him of that habit, so it helps to know when someone is about to arrive so we can prepare for it.

Glenn McDonald is not registered on the ARMS website therefore cannot register here. We have 4 people to drive long hauls......Joel, Taylor, Great Scotts, Craig, Jeremy...I am assuming Paul is racing for real still....

Any more drivers going to commit??

We may have two setups that night.......

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Quebec, I'll PM my PSN ID when I get home tomorrow night. Still waiting on the internet install on the 23rd! :( I'll make sure to post some lap times after I'm back online!

So the plan was always to live blog the 24h race here on ARMS, but someone suggested we live stream it as well.
Has anyone ever used Ustream, Justin.TV, Livestream or anything like those before for web streaming?

Now here's something completely different.
In the driving rain I ran a 9:10 and Varga a 8:57 .... both of us on SOFT tires.

Ok we have it narrowed down to two settings for the R10:

Current Setup
Aero Maxed
Stage 3 Turbo
1st Gear - 2.666
2nd Gear - 1.609
3rd Gear - 1.107
4th Gear - 0.817
5th Gear - 0.666
Final Gear - 3.500
LSD 10/7/7
Camber 3.5 / 0.5
Toe -0.30 / +0.40

Setup A
RH -15 / -10
SR 11.5 / 11.0
Dampers 8/8/8/8
ARB 2 /3

Setup B
SR 10.8 / 15.6
Dampers 5/8/4/6
ARB 2/2

Both setups can run sub 8mins in dry an sub 10mins in the rain.
I find Setup A turns in better, but Setup B is easier to control over the bumps.

Others please test in the dry and let me know your thoughts.

No problem Kevin, enjoy it!

Sadly cars that are worth more than $1,000,000cr can not be given away, and the R10 is well beyond that limit.

However driving some of the seasonal events, it's pretty easy to make $20,000,000cr in easily a day or two (which is the max credits you can have in the game).

Kevin, put your B-Spec driver(s) online and I'll earn you some $$$ via remote racing.

As of this writing, the La Festa Cavallino seasonal event, Circuit de la Sarthe race is the best for grinding credits. A 3.5 minute race will net you a half million credits, and nearly 50,000 XP.

Thanks Scott.
I've conferred with the 3 other primary drivers and we all agree next Friday (Oct 14/15) would be best. The start time will be 7pm.

Due to the change in date, I've cleaned up the thread to remove any incorrect info.

Sorry for the delay, but this new date is better for the 4 main drivers.

Again, the new date is Oct 14/15.
We will start at 7pm on Oct 14th!

Paul, Paul, Martin hopefully you guys are able to make it next week.

Sounds good.

Just to confirm, have you settled on the R10 as the car?

Yes, and I believe we've settled on "Setup A" above.

Looks like the F1 WDC will wrap up this weekend, however next weekend we can hook a 2nd TV up and watch qualifying for the Korean Gran Prix. It's on at 2am our time.

Spec 2.0 was released today with over 1gb of updates.
While I'm very excited about this massive update, and the DLC coming next week, I'm worried how the updated physics and AI will affect our 24h race.

I'll have to do more testing to see how the R10 performs now, and how much faster the AI is.

Jason has anybody booked specific seat time? I will be over around 10pm and can stay for a while, like 3 or 4am. I'm not planning on driving that whole time, but definately will log in a few hours.

Jason are you still going to have a spare setup running for people to qualify on?

I'm interested in trying it out. I have GT5 experience, but not using the wheel and pedals.

No one has booked anything yet. We will be pitting aprox every 24mins (in the dry) so we can change drivers aprox every 24mins.

Yes we are. The plan is for Varga to come over tonight and set it up.
We are still looking for a laptop and/or webcam for the live video stream.

PS-Mike if you're coming bring my stuff. :)

PM me with some directions

Just an FYI, front door will be unlocked (and front light on) all night, so just come in.
However remember Guinness, for those who drop by unexpectedly. :)

Also thanks to Kevin Newton for phoning us to wish us luck!

Cheers

For those on morning shifts, staying the night, or just dropping by in the morning, there will be breakfast :P

(Breakfast being scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, homemade hashbrowns, maple bacon, toast, and tea/coffee/redbull) :)
