We should all put up a B-Spec driver. I believe as many as 16 can be entered in a "remote" race.

Just cashed in 3 of my drivers (needed them for a 9hr B-Spec race tonight)
Between McIntyre, Paul and Shawn I made nearly 100,000cr.... not bad for just sharing them online.

The only thing that really sucks is that you need your PS3 to be be on, and in the "remote stand by" mode, which means you can't use it for anything else.... kinda sucks. I mean once the drivers are shared/uploaded there really isn't any need for the PS3... just run the races on the servers in the cloud.

I had the opportunity to use a Driving Force wheel at the in laws tonight. What a difference, even with the wheel clamped to a coffee table that swivelled under the force feedback and a terrible leaned over seating position, I still got to experience how much better the game feels when you have throttle and brake modulation. I'm hooked.

I need to go sell some stuff off so I can go buy a wheel now...

That's if you're hosting the race... The other driver's don't even need to have their PS3's turned on. :)

I don't know how people can play without one. :?:

Can we move this discussion to Bovis Fimus or even better gtplanet.net? IMO, this is becoming a video game forum and really nothing to do with real ARMS motorsports.

First off, this is not "ARMS Chat" this is "General Discussion"

Right now this is the winter motorsports for those who don't play in the mud/snow.
Also some people participating do not have ARMS Forum accounts so they would be unable to see Bovis Fimus.

I was thinking maybe (not tonight) but on Thursday or next Sunday we could have a gentlemens agreement to "hide instruments" and race from the cockpit view.

-To change to cockpit (interior view), press SELECT until your view is inside the car.

-To hide instruments, press START -> Quick Options -> Race Info Display -> "Hide Instruments"

No driving line either.

Thoughts?

Also with the addition to ballast in the game (1.06) we could use the exact same "success ballast" system that the real Super GT uses. (We would only need to switch to their points system).

http://www.nissan-motorsports.com/ENN/R ... ctory.html

Not suggesting we should do this, just saying it's now possible.

EDIT:
Just doing some quick math... here's what the points / success weight would be for tonights race.
Pos Name Pts +Kg
1 vincentq4 160 320
2 MerlinRPM 134 268
3 joelnelson 101 202
4 turbined 72 144
5 Mr_4G63T 70 140
6 S_AND_S 65 130
7 FormulaFunRacing 64 128
8 s3th10u5 61 122
9 trvbck 44 88
10 Mortifuri 26 52
11 Azrielx 19 38
12 nd4speed1 12 24

However I see Varga's post below and agree that most people (myself included) don't have the cars setup properly. Maybe the next series.

I agree with the experimentation ideas, however there are people still getting familiar with the tracks (environment) and have not optimized their performance to their satisfaction.

For clean racing, the interior view on the Super GT cars do not have much rearward field of vision. I have been using the bumper CAM as I think most have been for this reason.

However I would like to progress to what you are proposing Jason.

In fact I am going to practice right now.....and forget about the bills!!

Haha!

I use the whole car view. I like seeing the car. Although for night driving I can't use it, I use the hood view. That's why I suck at night, I'm using a different view then I'm use to.

What would be the point of hiding instruments?

I don't think I would have much luck without the driving line, I'm just not that familiar with a lot of the tracks yet.

practicing tonite was the first time not using the driving line. I Kinda liked it better. your braking points if you are not sure of where to brake are still indicatad by the flashing downshift light.

allthough i still suck and i believe i was a minute nine seconds behind varga and jason at cout d azur

I don't find the racing as good with these cars. I like driving it
more than the m3, but after a few events you are really starting to see some big differences between the cars and the races are super spaced out.

I think the spacing is due to the length of the races we're now doing.
All cars have strengths and weaknesses but I think car setup makes a big difference.

I think we should revisit these cars and do the series with the same Super GT points and success ballast at a later time.

Here are some pics from last night:

Lined up....

and ready to race!

McIntyre leads the way after the first corner

Who says you can't pass at the hairpin?

(Actually I passed two people there at once, cleanly on the first lap)

Lined up at Rome
Image

Harrod waits for McIntyre and John(?) to slip up
Image

... and then makes the pass

The first time we all didn't line up straight on the grid

Ming finds out those wire fences are stronger than they appear

Carnage after the tunnel

McIntyre spins Part 1

Part 2

Did someone say HillClimb?

Image

Monza was wet
Image

Steve knows there are cars ahead of him.... somewhere
Image

Everyone is running wide

Paul runs away for a win like he's on dry pavement, with a 40 second gap to second place.

After the first three rounds the points look like this.

Jay B has made some huge progress and is up to 4th place, jumping both Harrod and McIntyre (and Joel who missed last night). Maybe that custom setup for each track is starting to pay off.

The battle of the "Scotts" has McIntyre in the lead by 2 points at this stage.

There's an 11 point spread between 4th and 8th place, so it's still anyone's game.

Paul was a train at Monza...unbelievable...very challenging to keep concentration and not lose control.

I was lucky and spent much of the race in 2nd place. I finally missed a braking point on the last lap, which allowed Varga to catch me right at the finish line...he got me by just 5/1000s of a second.

Well, since he was nice enough to loan me the car for the series, I had no choice but to let him pass me...

Due to this notice I'm asking everyone to join MerlinRPM's Lounge as early as possible. We should have enough time to complete our races before the maintenance window at 11pm, however if the server drops during a race, that race will be null and void.

OFFICIAL GT5 - Maintenance Notice - Feb 24, 2011

The online service of Gran Turismo 5 will undergo maintenance during the following hours:

Start: 02/24/2011 22:00 EST (11pm AST)
Finish: 02/24/2011 23:00 EST (Midnight AST)

During the maintenance, it will not be possible to connect to any of the online services.

*Please note that the exact times of the maintenance may slightly vary.

Due to connection issues we were only able to run the High Speed Ring race last night.

We will try to fit in the other 3 races on Sunday night, maybe starting a 1/2hr early and/or dropping one of the races.

The big news is the unexpected 1.07 update last night. No more trading of cars of 1,000,000cr. Hopefully this will put an end to the dup'ing community however anyone that had "lent" cars to people can now not get the back. PD IMHO should have given at least a few days warning before doing this.

Due to the disconnect issues Thursday night we're going to start a 1/2 hr early tonight to try and get some (or all) of the SuperGT tracks done tonight.

7:30pm - MerlinRPM's lounge.
