We have talked to CSC Racing in Newmarket Ontario about a weld-in roll cage kit for the Miata. We have specified the size, material & required bars for the kit to ensure it meets SCCA specification. This kit includes Nascar door bars for both sides. I am planning to order a few of these cages. If anyone would like to get one (along with my order), the price is $900 including taxes & shipping to Dartmouth.

Debbie, I ordered you one!

I was off slightly on the shipping. I adjusted the price accordingly.

Bruce,
Would this cage meet CARS specs? I have been a little busy the last couple of months with non motorsport related stuff and haven't had a chance to dig any deeper into cages.

Dave

It would not meet CARS as specified. To meet CARS;
- substitute 1-3/4" dia. material (still .095") instead of 1-1/2
- substitute the nascar door bars for X bars
- substitute the main hoop horizontal with diagonal
- add the a-pillar diagonals & the extra halo diagonal
- add req'd gussets
- optionally, add a diagonal between the main hoop rear stays

Then you'd be good for CARS. I dont think it would be too much more $$$.

1 3/4 pipe lets you run any other IT, STU,and STL in SCCA. I've run STU and ITS with 1.5 pipe but reading rules by car wieght I'm not legal. Nobody says anything due to they need bodies and there not reading that far into the rules. Make sure its DOM pipe in SCCA and NASA no ERW pipe. If you have room go to 1.75 pipe. Go with Nascar bars, they have saved me and my car! I added an extra bar to the drivers side. 3 bars and extra verticle bars. Good luck all, They are incredible little racers.

I have an extra complete weld-in rollcage kit complete with window net kit. If anyone would like to buy (or have it installed) just send me a PM. Gord, I know you are tempted...

CSC weld-in roll cage. I designed it in AutoCAD and I emailed the file to CSC. They built it on spec. All pre-notched. Now they have a template to do other Miata cages. As I install this cage, I will make note of any modifications and send that info back to CSC.

7 hours into the build...
- removed plastic undertray, wheel liners, body flares, rear spoiler, power antenna, complete interior, air bags, headlights, cruise control, roof brackets, dash, firewall insulation, floor insulation, and completely gutted both doors. Installed restrictor plate (man that hole is small).
not bad...

Update. 19 hours into the build. Cage has been installed (no pics) and dash reinstalled. Window net kit installed. K&N filter. Next up; seat & brackets, kill switch. Then I'll hand sand the entire car over the weekend and prep it for paint. Just wait until you see the colour I'm going to paint this car!

Did I mention that Mills Mazda is on board with our series? They have donated a brand new 2011 Mazda MX-5 for advertising our SM Series. Of course it will include a series decal kit and is sitting on a set of Toyo Proxes R1R tires. Awsome! It will venture to the track during race weekends.

Anyone considering getting into road racing why not consider the Miata & this series. It will be awsome!

You should get some pics done up of this car for promotional purposes...posters would be nice!

Let me know if you need any "specialty" pics of your build...I am available most days...nights...hell always...for racing stuff!

Installed timing belt and bled the brakes today. Miata is finished. ALWAYS takes more time than you figured on. I have somewhere between 80-100 hours into the build. Can't wait to shake it down next weekend.
