Great racing all through the field, we were all very pleased and impressed.

A superhuman effort to encourage all those racers to come out and congratulations to Blu, Bruce and Steve for getting the ball rolling.

And the old adage is true: More is better!

Won't be there for various reasons.

Car needs a engine swap and I have to figure out how to set it up properly.

This thread was started over a year ago...

Anyway, I don't think the engine is your problem. Get the car set up properly and get it fast. Then get yourself fast. Then replace the engine if needed.

If you are going to miss an event, the first one is not the one to miss. It is a double points event. I can send you all the info you need to set the car up. Just let me know if required.

The driver is not the majority of this problem. My datalog from the enduro is pretty clear.

I'll be out testing but probably not racing.

Ok ok, I would not usually comment, but I gotta ask, what is the logger showing you?

What is the point of using a data logger in SM? You can do a huge laundry list of things to your Miata in your own garage prior to any track session/race that will be far more useful. This list will get you within striking distance of the leaders, regardless of even having a weaker engine. You can run a 250k km engine and still be pretty good providing it has even compression. Here is a partial list;
- do a compression test. If the pressures are above 150, you are good.
- install new NGK spark plugs & new wires.
- check coil pack for any cracks, replace if suspect.
- install a cheap paper air filter (often).
- advance your timing by installing a performance timing wheel and adjusting it by the crank angle sensor.
- clean/dyno the injectors. A miss firing injector will fire more fuel, thus richening the mixture.
- NB cars run rich. Install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and lower the pressure slightly.
- add -2.5degs of camber in the front wheels, with as much caster as possible. Adjust the rears as much as possible, maybe -3.0 degs.
- remove the cat & the rear O2 sensor (not required).
- install the full 2-1/4" SM exhaust.
- set toe at 0 for front and back (baseline).
- set rear swaybar to the softest setting (hole at rear).
- set front ride height at 4-3/4" to pinch welds in rocker lip.
- set rear ride height to 4-7/8"
- scale the car. get the cross weights to as near 50/50 as possible.
- install a hardtop. Aerodynamics are very important. Drafting works even at AMP! No one at the runoffs are running without a roof.
- run your tires 40psi (hot)

There are lots of other things as well. However, if you perform the basic list above and get a bunch of seat time, you will get your car fast. Seat time is so important. You can gain many seconds just by learning where the best braking zones are, fast in/fast out corner entry/exit speeds. That can gain you up to 10mph on the back straight alone. I don't care what you are running for an engine. A junk yard engine will still get you a 1:21 with the above setup and a bunch of seat time. So if are not running a 21 yet, then look at everything else. You have about 12 weeks to get her ready for action. Tons of time...

Bruce has great tips....especially the seat time one. These little cars are very forgiving. Always think momentum...Not HP. (I drive a 99). On practice day try running no restrictor plate. Helps you get faster with the plate ...you relize how much faster you can go and brking zones get smaller. Practice in groups. If your alone ,wait up for people. Learn together, share info. It makes for great racing.
The new 05 power plant has just turned 214k (miles) head is from my 5 year old crate mtr. set up is 50/50....2.5 camber frt 2.8 rear. Stays that way for all tracks. Remember ...brakes slow you down in these cars .....! But also make you fast. Have agreat season all. I hope somehow I can somehow play in your sand box again.
