Decent price for around here. If those are KMs and not Miles thats quite decent. Looks very solid and the hardtop sweetens the pot. It would almost be a shame to SM it based on the condition.

The 1990's have the short-nose crank that can lead to issues. Depending on who you ask if its a when not if type failure. I never had any issues with mine. Its something you can only sort of see happening beforehand without taking the crank pulley off, though.

I've always said that the cars too good to cut up for racing are the best cars to start with, no fixing up worn out stuff or rust issues. I just thought that the condition of the car warranted a look, especially with the hard top. I'm not likely going to be starting any Spec Miata racing anytime soon, as I don't really have the money to leave the Island regularly for racing. I'd have to buy a hauler and everything instead of just driving to an autoX.

That would be a good car for the street. But I wouldn't buy it to build into a SM car. It would cost another $4-5K to get it into race trim. You can buy decent SM cars already built for <$10K. We will have a low milage, Southern, 97 SM car forsale in the Spring that will be race ready including a bunch of brand new parts, Torsen, & paint, etc. Price will probably be $9K with Title.

Its up for grabs if anyone wants it. I will paint to suit. Otherwise I will paint it to what I have in mind and it will be a rental.

*sigh* I really need to rent one next year for what will likely be the only race I get to do. Just to make myself feel bad. :)

Gordie, I think you'd better get as much RallyX in as possible this winter, because I'm sure your spare personal time will be quite limited next summer.

But, pick your weekend and reserve the seat. You want the double?

My goal for next year is the August rally and one race. Anything more than that will be a shock. :)

I must have a really supportive wife because when our son was born I never really slowed down in racing, I just couldn't do it all. Meaning 3 years ago I was racing and slaloming full time, that had to stop so I choose to do the slaloming thing full time and just ran the JCM's. That only lasted for 2 years before I realized that I missed road racing too much so last year I decided to stop slaloming and go back to full time road racing. It's all a matter of balance, you and your wife can't give up things you enjoy doing outside of the house, both of you will go crazzy. Especially the first year, a new born doesn't do a whole lot but sleep and eat and they require mommy for half of that which leaves you free to go play. Kids are great, especially when they enjoy going to the track, then you've got it made!

That old cliche;

Take your kids hunting. Then you will not have to hunt for your kids...

This topic is drifting more than a Fast and Furious movie. :)

I have my goals for next year, we have absolutely no idea what 2012 is going to be like. Rally is always my focus and if I can make every sprint/rally I will, road racing a second. I figure its better to set a reasonable target (One rally, one race) and consider the rest to be good luck.

I figure its going to be trickier to balance since we BOTH want to be in the cars. I can't trade Daph a night out quilting for a day at the track, we have to trade off days at the track with each other! :)

I have 2 little girls (2 and 4) and I take them to the track all the time, and they love it. I picked up a couple sets of kids ear muffs and bring them some things to do when they get bored. My oldest was quite angry with me for not taking her to the track sooner this year, they love seeing daddy's car go down the track!!

I picked up my 00 in mint shape, 100k miles for $5k.

Offer what the car is worth and you'll be surprised. Get it in winter.

Save some bucks and get a set of arm restraints instead of a roof. ;)

Start with a good car, not a rust bucket. Be patient and waiting with $.

Running without a roof is allowed by SCCA rules, Steve is correct. It might even help you if are having a hard time getting the car down to minimum weight. Going to suck in the rain though.

Well, racing in the rain won't be too bad, I was in Dave Hull's Miata in a rain storm with the roof down, and didn't get wet. BUT, should there be a red flag in the rain, (what are the chances, right?) THAT WILL SUCK!!!

Just strap in a little umbrella behind the seat or something to hold over your head, or better yet, rest on the roll cage, lol.

I wouldn't be interested if I had to have a roof on.. and I don't race in the rain, or rather, I don't race cars I gotta fix myself in the rain.

Still a long way from an open cockpit, but when life give you lemons..

Hope someone else is up for some free air. Also, as Brian can maybe attest my need, it's easier to see what's going on around you without all that damn metal in the way. :)

Wow, that is one hell of a deal, even for a well used car.

Hehe, he even has the extremely rare FWD version!! Car looks like a great deal, but I don't know why people have to put themselves into pics of the car when they are putting it up for sale...
