$500 tow to the event Legacy Outback. Give this car the viking rally funeral it deserves! :)

375 for a subaru you could drive home this month. If I had my own trailer I'd be all over this.

$1800 SG5 Forester in NB. Killer rallycross car, especially for snow events. Practical too!

A lot of aftermarket warranty company's won't pay for repairing head gaskets. It is cheaper to install a used engine.

Design flaws essentially. Issue changed from year to year as thier engineers chased it. That, not changing coolant regularly, and one cylinder gets hotter than the rest.

EJ20's are not as prone to it.

As long as it's WRX's your bringing up, you should be ok.

Several on Kijiji Brent, not sure on condition.

Im going to Dallas in Feb. There are decent rust free Imprezas. I don't care for a Turbo car though, so maybe Ill drag home a 2.5 RS.

I will be "acquiring" John Alchorn's flawless 86 GT3 CRX soon. Im not sure what to do with it. I may sell it, I may put it in storage. I may convert it to rally. Properly set up, it could do 17's all day at AMP so I don't know what I will do with it. Ive worked on that car for a dozen years so I just may have to keep it. But Im still interested in Rally but I have 3 race cars now and Im not interested in having a 4th.

Most have the horrible rust cancer in the rear wheel wells - just like mine! Looked at one the other day, the guy seemed totally unaware of the massive holes beside the rear struts in the rear wheel well until I handed him a fist full of former metal. Once the bubbles start at the rear of the wheel arch, the damage seems to already have been done.

....which is why I am not interested in any local cars.

I'd drag home something like this;

Yep. Bring a couple and you'll sell them for a good profit I figure. I'm seriously thinking of bringing a couple WRX 5spd cars up from below the rust belt.

$600 Leg Outback with MVI. SAys it needs a rear subframe which isn't the funnest job in the world but its made a lot easier if you don't mind cutting access holes in your interior. :)

So how come the majority of people in Atlantic Canada do not undercoat their cars? These subs all could have survived for some time to come if they were. Say I keep a car for 10 years. I pay $1500 over that span to undercoat it. I will save that much in repairs due to rust and generally speaking the car will be worth that much more when I go to sell it. So why don't people undercoat their cars? I do...

Probably because the only way that they can see savings, is if they're immediate. As opposed to over the long term.

Most people don't keep their vehicle long enough to care about rust proofing. Nor do they share our passion for automobiles.

How many cars have you seen with a rust check sticker for every year and no rocker panels? That's why many people don't bother. It's one of those things that may or may not actually help. Honda, and probably a few other manufacturers, recommend that you not undercoat the car. It was stated to me by a Honda service rep that it could void the rust warranty.

How is that even possible with an oil-like undercoating?? I can see that for some kinds of permanent rubber types... they can crack over time

Yeeeeah... I don't think they can actually do that.

They told my wife and I the same thing. 5 months after we bought her 08' Civic coupe, we had it rust checked (holes drilled everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. My dad is the local Rust check guy in Windsor). 3 or 4 years later the tops of both doors (of all places eh?) rusted through completely. We had both doors replaced under warranty. No questions asked even AFTER they pointed out that it had been undercoated.

I assume it's either poorly applied, applied over existing corrosives or rust, or it just washes off. Or it maybe it just doesn't work. I'm not sure. I'm sure it doesn't help when they drill holes to apply it. Then clog the drain holes with the spray. All I know is that I see a lot of cars with lots of undercoating stickers and tons of rust.

I think if you take care of the car (wash it, etc) it stays nice. Neglect it and it doesn't.

Edit: Mike, I'm thinking if the bottoms of the doors were rusted, not the tops, it might have been a different story.

I can't say for sure.

I see that both Krown and RustCheck's site both have a claim that it will not void manufactures warranties... Honestly though, I haven't read the fine print.

I can tell you though, that your washing the car will not get inside all the places that rust check is applied.

Sorry about thread jacking... er... Rally!

I know that my 05 Forester has been undercoated every year since new and there isn't a sign of bubbling anywhere on the fender inside or out whereas my 02 WRX that hadn't been undercoated was rusted through the fenders at the same age.

Its relatively cheap insurance, I'll stick with it.
